I will say this for the CNN network. They have a basic understanding of addition and subtraction . They understand that a 94 less a 58 is a 36. Those doodyheads on Fox & Friends have 3 times this morning quoted the lead in Ohio as 145,000 votes instead of 136,000. I think the 136,000 is going to be enough for the "WOMD MAN" to take care of business, so why does the FOX network have to paint a rosier picture than already exists. They have 3 people on the panel this morning, and not one of them has corrected the error on any of the occasions.

Is it just stupidity beyond the call of duty on their part, or do they honestly believe they are foolin people the world over. Surely enough people do the maths in their own heads each time they flash the numbers up.

LOL - it gets better . Now the same people are slagging off the exit poll people for them getting their numbers so very wrong.

I think they have a good axe to grind with the exit polls, but talk about a good dose of self inflicted irony by the fair and balanced one.

Who needs re-runs of Seinfeld for entertainment

Did you watch CNN last night? How many times did Wolf Blitzer use a democratic reference instead of a republican one (By that I mean using "democrat" instead of "republican" or saying a state should turn blue instead of red)? I counted at least three. Is Wolf unable to tell the difference between blue and red, or the difference between a democrat and a republican? Maybe he was trying to fool people into thinking the democrats were doing better then they were. Or perhaps it has something to do with the fact that everyone has been up for a very long time, in very stressful situations, that it isn't that difficult of an error to make, and that it doesn't really matter that much in the big picture.

Mate - I only got home from work a couple of hours ago. When I went to work your polls hadn't closed and when I got home from work all your counting had finished.

The only bit I have seen is for a half hour over dinner tonight.

Someone from IW else must be watching Fox and Friends, because another thread quotes the 145,000 number. These guys are a disease

Davros, give it up you can have a life without FOX, it is true, the world goes on there are billions of people that live breath and love without FOX. Since you don't like FOX I would sugest for your own sake stop watching them, it obviously upsets you, and sends you into a tired old FOX is Evil incarnate dio-tribe.

Yes, FOX is a vital part of the CON-SPI-RASSIE, we hold our meetings every First & Third monday of the month.

Ya know JD - I don't watch it more than a half hour every 3 months. It's not as if I sift through all their waffle looking for gems. There is no need when they come so readily to hand.

I would have thought that with the most important number in the country this morning being the Kerry defecit in Ohio and whether it is enough for him to concede that a major news network could do their maths just a little. It's not like it is research or anything JD - it is one number minus a smaller number. Most of the old school like you and me do it in our heads don't we .

And now it didn't upset me this morning John - it amused me, so you are wrong of that score.

I have to actually commend the networks on their election coverage - at least what I saw.

I wathced Tom Brokaw and Tim Russert on NBC and they were very cautious about reporting ANY results from any state too early. They were also up all night doing live updates, so I give them credit for still being coherent for the morning crowd.

Tom Brokaw stated that NBC was projecting Bush as the winner in Ohio and that would basically clinch the re-election bid for him - but he also duly noted that Kerry has not conceded Ohio and is still counting on the provisional and absentee ballots to swing Ohio back to his favor. Brokaw didn't offer any editorial comment on Kerry's chances, he simply stated that NBC stands by their projections even though there are still votes left to count. Other stations have said that Kerry's chances of winning Ohio are very slim, even with the provisional and absentee ballots - but for once - Brokaw and NBC didn't offer any comments either way. They just said they stood by their projections, but noted that Kerry had not conceded the contest yet.

Very professional coverage, in my opinion.

While we are on the number it's 136,221 , the 221 people that voted and not being counted by CNN are going to be upset

I'm glad you limit your watching of FOX, I don't want you to keel over with a heart attack or anything.

Question Mark

I watched both FNC and CNN during the night. It was fun to see the differences, so I simply averged the values they both bantied about and figured the average was much closer to the truth.

LOL - JD you are crackin me up. 136,221 - sure, so that is the exact figure.

Using the 136,000 number that CNN did is what we call rounding off to the nearest thousand. Applying the same leeway to FOX and giving them the same benefit of the "rounding" philosophy then I guess you could say they rounded to the nearest 29,000 (what with 145,000 being closer to the exact number than 116,000 is).

Or you could just say (which is the thing you are avoiding saying) is that those turkeys can't add and subtract.
