As some of you know, I've been living with my parents while doing my degrees. But this year going every day and driving during peak hour I decided I am sick to death of driving an hour each way and so I'm moving out! My parents have bought a unit (a very nice investment property for them) and I will pay them rent to live in it. It's totally great, five minutes from uni with a courtyard for my kitty. I'm very excited! I'll be moving in a few weeks. This will be my first time living on my own so I think it will be a wonderful adventure!

So what were all you guys' first experience of living out of home?

I think it was a little scary at first, exciting as well, but the fear thing is something that most of us overcome like that first day of school when we were 5 years old.

Cool! There are few things as exciting as moving out for the first time! And kudos to your parents for buying some rental property to do it with

It's a little scary, and a lot of fun. For me, there was also a period of realizing I really *was* fully on my own... usually seen by looking into the fridge and seeing there was nothing there but what I bought

Have a great time with it!

Good for you , I am still enjoying the cheap rent and free food of living at home. At least until my degree is done.

The first experience was the party but I don’t remember much of that just the headache and the tidy up the morning after

Smart move by your parents as well, getting a trusted renter who will look after the unit well, for their (I'm guessing) first investment home. Is it a ground floor unit? A two bedder so you can share the cost? Post some pics when you can, I wish you well Aelia.

Awsome. Sounds like things are going to be easier for you. And lets see moving out... Well was not really scary. I did look forward to it. Going to buy my own food and all the fun nights with people over. I say enjoy and have a great time.

I've lived with my parents in England all my life (I'm 18), and I'm moving to live by myself in Italy at the end of May. Can't wait I've never been to anywhere else in Europe before.

One of my first experiences was that i kept asking myself where the hell all my money went. It's quite a shock if you move from a place where they pamper you to a place where suddenly everything costs money, even virtually meaningless stuff like toiletpaper, washingpowder and lightbulbs, things you've never bought before in your life. Not to mention all those bills that drop in your mail every month. But it's also fun to be on your own for the first time, it's kinda like an adventure in the beginning.

I guess having your folks as landlord will be in your favour, like not seeing the rent go up every year ?

I only moved out about 7 months ago too after my degree so wasn't a little 18 year-old new to everything, so it wasn't really scary at all. But then I'd been living on my own for up to 6 weeks at a time since I was 17 whenever I stayed in Hungary, so it was just a continuation and extention of that (I'd already learnt how to use the oven for chips and pizza and how to load the washing machine once a month ).
