Well, technically, I haven't tried it out. I'm not in a Morrowind 'mood', and when I asked this question it was a modding mood really. But I'll try it out sometime. If it doesn't work, I can go a month or two before being put in the asylum anyways.

the problem with losing settings is caused by using a restricted account in windows xp. morrowind stores its settings in the registry and your account doesn't have the rights to write to the registry than no settings will be saved.
all the settings reside in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks
