As a huge FF fan the only thing I can say concerning the online only Final Fantasy XI is that square can stick it exactly where it's needed. If anyone bought Final Fantasy IX and the official Squaresoft playguide they would notice right after coming home and ripping the celophane off the playguide that it nearly always told you to jump online and look for more detail. Sure it told you what to do but it was nothing like the other guides. It showed you where to go and had you wanted more detail you'd have to get online and search meaning if you didn't have the internet that you payed for the guide for nothing. If you did have the inernet then you also payed for the damn guide for nothing as the whole thing was online anyway. Why I'm saying this? Cause I see it totally pointless to pay for something that you will then have to pay to get use out of. Kind of like buying a house and then having to pay rent to live in it. It's stupid and totally pointless. Under my opinion FFXI should be a normal game WITH the ability to be played online if people choose to do so. Making it online only though is not only a ridicule to the FF name, but also a total disrespect to Squaresofts customers (us of course) for putting this on us.
I totally understand that if we don't like it then we don't need to pay for it but when you support something for so long you kind of expect that you will be well looked after. Not in this case. Square just turned one of the best titles in history, into a money scavanging scam and as far as I am concerned they can keep it.

Anyway that's my point of view on the topic.

Well said Bokken.I couldn't have done it better.
If FFXI can only be played online,a lot of people
including me will be disappointed.I truly hope this
doesn't happen, and that we all will be able to play
when we want, without needing the help from someone online.

what the insulting part is that you have to pay for the service! i mean let's say Blizzard and Diablo... the hint there is that you can play it online for FREE. and you can also do it for yourself, and they still encourage online gaming... but then it becomes your privelege and not a obligation nor a requirement

Ok, heres a deal.

I used to own the biggest FF site in England, but due to some problems - some legal with roms and emulators, we shut it down. Then a server burn. Now, I still have the backup files, and I could get it up and running again if I wanted...I have 700mb of server space....But I'd need staff....is anyone interested? This wouldnt be definate, just curios.

Well .....did any of you see 'THe Spirits Within'? well i did and loved it unfortuneatly the general public
did not and sqaurelost serious millonsand had to sell off o incidentally the entirely online FF11 will be very different as it'll be made by a different company so to judge it would be unfair untilone has played it and hence realisd is crappy nature no

I don't think you will only be able to play online. All online games have some sort of single player mode right? I don't think FFXI will be any different. I really didn't like the Spirits Within. It was only because I expected it to be connected to FF in some way. A moogle or black mage would've been nice...
I don't expect the online service to be very expensive either. I've heard rumors that it'll cost the same as Sega's right now, which is a measely five bucks a month. Even I could scrape up enough cash for that.

Yes, but peeps still do not dwell on payments man. Take a look even at Blizzard as I have said. They have Battle Net, and it is for free, and the age span of players playing these games are older than the ones playing FF. What it means is these kids so to speak do not even know how to buy clothes for example (just giving an example). So how are they going to play? I mean do you think parents are going to pay for an expensive game and pay 5 bucks a month for maintenance? Nah... that is what Battle Net, or Game Spy or whatever popular- free online gaming
