From what my professor at the university said this semester, it is better to use the program's self-removal tool if it has one. I do not personally have a preference between the two, but if you want to believe him, he's got a doctorate degree in this stuff.

Thanks Larry!

Bozos of Bones, do you have the links for these, or anybody?

AVG FREE - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
Ad-Aware - http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
Zone Alarm - http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conten...eeDownload.jsp
NOD 32 - http://www.nod32.com.au/nod32/default.html

And about the uninstallation, using Add/Remove Program will first try to run the application's own uninstaller, and if that fails, attempt to uninstall by itself. The only case where running the uninstaller itself rather than going through Add/Remove would be if the program holds it's own installation logs, doesn't report it to windows, and the Add/Remove can't find the uninstaller. Atleast I think works like this.

EDIT: Beaten to it, but HA! My links are better!1!

The 2 B's are on the ball. I will give these a try this evening. It's mostly for my wife's PC, since hers is really slow with Norton in there. I will cahange both though.

What types of performance issues, if any can I expect with these?

LOL! Bozos' links are far superior to mine!

The only performance issue I've noticed is that when AVG kicks off its system scan, it uses enough resources that it makes my current gaming (Deadlock II) go jumpy on me. Once the scan is done, it's back to normal.

Did you say you use 3 of these, or all of these?

I don't know about nod32, but you can use all the others. Zonealarm is your firewall, AVG is your anti virus, Awaware and Spybot SD are your anti adware/spyware.

I use the first four. AVG can be substituted for NOD if you have the money.
