What is the best way to steal? - Page 3

Bernard is in the CC but everytime i try to steal from him.. THe bastard catches me.. and so your saying that wearing leather armor lowers you p/p skills w/o it showing up? If so maby thats the prob... hmmmmmmmm

Well, I never suceeded from Bernard in stealing even when I boosted my Pick pockets to 275 with master thievery potions, so I'm not sure what im doing wrong. Wearing leather won't lower my chance THAT much, and people are saying they are doing it easy at 170, I don't get it.
Maybe stealing doesn't even go against your Pick pockets skill, maybe its another skill that checks it, who knows.

I believe I've read that, although there are supposed to be adjustments to your p/p skill based on what kind of armor is worn (see page 233 of the manual), these adjustments weren't actually programmed into the game. I could be wrong, though.

It is supposed to be the p/p skill that guides your success at stealing from a merchant. If you can't succeed with Bernard after trying what I detailed above, then I honestly don't know what else you can try. Maybe you just weren't cut out for a life of crime, eh?

I have a question.. Since the rules of BG2 are based on AD&D Ruels 2nd Edition.. is there some sort of thing on theiveing from stors or something like that in thoses rules and what skills does it check if successful.. but ive never played dungeons and dragons..(EVER) so i might just be being a fool and there is no such thing.. but maby the armor does effect your success some.. or maby its a bug.. im going to go to that site (Baldurdash) and D/L some of his stuff in hopes maby he fixed a prob. with theiveing or something... i dont know.. its just frusterateing.. But some one wrote that they could sell stuff back to the fatso? How did you do that? WHen i have had stolen items i couldn't sell them at all... to any one... could that be a glitch?

Pickpocket skill is the skill used for thieving from stores. The armour type does apparently affect all of your thieving attributes. There are very few merchants that will buy stolen stuff. The Shadow Thief hideout will, so will the storekeep if you own the thief stronghold, there are one or two others. Bernard im pretty sure does not.

Dont forget there are many items available to increase your thieving abilities, such as the gloves of PP. If your dexterity is below 18 take a potion of agility which will bring it to 18, then take a potion of Mind Focusing which will give you a +3 to Dexterity and a +3 to Intelligence. There are more and many (about 5) potions than just the potion of Master Thievery to help clumsy thieves
