If it is possible....The only way to get there...would be...'Tree Surfing'...

I've seen that post, in the Best tips thread...and I wonder if it can be done. I know I tried...But after 10 mins, I decided to pay Buckly instead....

If you do, buy the boat....
.. Stay away from the shore...near Talrik!!!!
It Will....run....aaa...ground...

Also....Once the Grins get thin...Swim.
IMHO...running on top if the water, is faster and easier to control.

EDIT: ** Ooohkie Dooohkie.....
I just reloaded an old save...
This time...I tried for an hour. I still
can not get from the East gate...to the West side of Brimlock Roon!!!!!

Maybe, it's just me.. ..But maybe
...?????

I think you do need to buy the ship. At this point in the game the money really shouldn't be that great an issue. After the West Gate is opened, you can swim instead of using the ship as you choose. I liked the ship and I liked swimming too!

AFAIR, the west gate doesn't open until you buy the ship. Once you've bought it, though, you don't have to use it.

I've found swimming to be faster, primarily because the boat has that annoying habit of speeding up and slowing down, like wave action might do. When swimming, that doesn't happen.

Also, it's much easier to stop and check the bottom when some scout senses a crab or shark nearby if you're swimming. If you're in the boat, you have to stop, get out, look around, slay sea beastie, search for shell, and get back in. Quite the pain, IMHO...

There's no downside to swimming; either in stamina, hit points, health, or anything else. The only way you can swim to your death is to go underwater until you drown.

You have to buy the ship to get out of Brimloch Roon. You just don't have to use it.
