IEEP: Made for creating
IE: Made for exploring
NI: Made for editing and exploring

Plus that NI gives you alot more information.

In short, NI can edit stuff, and IE is better for viewing the data.
And IE doesn't suport all files that NI does.

When I close the Near Infinity, my computer turns off.

Do you happen to have any other editors running (IEEP, InfExp, SK?), I know that this can give fatals and bluescreens.

I would generally encourage the use of IEEP instead of NI for item editing (at least until you become more familiar with the engine), for the simple reason that it has effect descriptions.

If I have my browser open at the same time as NI, I get hosed buttons and titlebars. Like everywhere. Check boxes and radio buttons, like the Start --> Shut Down boxes are all gunked up, which is problematic if you have to try to decipher what is selected.

If I have my browser open at the same time as IEEP, I get odd, "random" program crashes, sometimes corrupting DIALOG.TLK.

For me, as long as I don't have IE running, NI is the most stable, and least likely to corrupt stuff.

BTW, in case this has not been drilled into you sufficiently, make backup copies of DIALOG.TLK, CHITIN.KEY, WeiDU.LOG and your entire override folder, so you can recover when (not if) you run into problems.

NI is certainly more powerful than InfExp, and the fact that the last official release of InfExp is almost as old as SOA itself doesn't help (although there is a September 2002 beta I have that has some features of interest to dialogue modders), but there are some things it's still great for, such as exploring areas to look for characters, and finding points for dialogue interjections.
