OK...I know this has to be official. I read it in my Two weeks of looking for something to do, while this site was down. I cannot believe nobody else has made mention of it yet in here! What am I talking about? Look below, and give me your opinion...

Official Free Expansion for Heart of Winter:
Interplay.com…Icewind Dale main page…1/4 of the way down…says:

DUNGEON PACK:
A couple of the boys from the Icewind team are busy working on a free downloadable dungeon pack that plugs into Heart of Winter which adds some new places to check out, new items, new NPC's, new fights, new portraits, the list goes on.

Then, in The Black Isle Studios Forum:

Our original target date was set for early to mid May. However, we've recently added a couple more huge levels, so I'd imagine that date will be pushed back a bit. I'll post more info when we have an official release date. As for the title, I'm currently working on that. I've narrowed the list down to about two dozen potentials. Hopefully, we'll make our final choice by next week. More details to follow.

And when someone asked this question:

Q: Is it still being aimed at 15-16th level and accessible only through Lonelywood?

A: Actually, we're shooting for a broader range of 11-18. Each individual encounter will be scaled according to your party's level. This seemed to be the only viable way to accommodate the greatest number of players. And, yes, the adventure will only be accessible through Lonelywood.

Yeah, they probably felt bad about charging us $39.99 for the size of the expansion we bought, and this is thier way to make it up to us...(note: this is purely my idea of the situation...not a fact...as I do not know WHY.

Outstanding is a good word for it. I recently finished the Heart of Winter and while I enjoyed it, there was a definite let down when I realised that was it.
P.S. I only paid 29.95 for it at Best Buy...mwhahahaha

Yeah, sounds good.
Only problem is that it will take hours to dl for us 56k modem folks! And I don't know what it's like elsewhere in the world, but here in England you pay for the phone call by the minute, so would probably cost more than £20 (the cost of HoW here) to dl.
With any luck, they will see fit to release it for some mags to carry on their coverdisk in the way that other developers distribute some free mods. That's the only way I can see myself getting it.

More News!! For those that care, that is...(Gosh...I think I feel like Memnoch on the BGII board!!!)

Over the past month, several of the boys from the Icewind Dale team have been busy working on a free downloadable expansion set for Heart of Winter, and wanted to give you some updates as to its progress, as well as introduce it to those of you who are interested in continuing the adventures in Icewind Dale.

When the web expansion is installed, a mysterious halfling introduces himself in the Whistling Gallows Inn in Lonelywood. He seeks a party of stalwart heroes for a quest to a place of great wonder, with treasures beyond the imagination. Should the party accept, they will be transported to a new place, far from the icy terrain of the Dalelands, finding themselves within the walls of a ruined castle in an unfamiliar land...

We're including more new magic items, some of which are coming from thos of you in the gaming community! Log on to our message boards to submit yours! New monsters coming too!

We're doing our best to keep the overall download size at a respectable level, but expect it to be within the 75-100MB range, and it will be localized in French, German, Spanish, and Italian as well.

Good news,

For anyone in the UK / Europe that wants it but can't download it, I will try to download it at work and burn it on to CDs. If you guys pay postage and the price of the CD (50/60p) then I'll glady send you a copy.
