CANBERRA, Australia (AP) - Mild-mannered Prime Minister John Howard went into battle Friday on behalf of superheroes after some Australian childcare centers banned kids from dressing as caped crusaders like Superman and Batman.

"That is political correctness gone mad," Howard told Melbourne radio station 3AW.

Is it me or does the world seem like it is going crazy. I used to pretend to be a superhero when I was little. The world is just not a fun place anymore.

Yes when it comes to this the world has indeed gone mad. Costumes promoting violence. Does that mean every man wearing a suit will become a lying lawyer?

I'm sowwy Timber.

Edit: NOOOOOOOOO!

Don't tell me you're one of those females who go soft on the sight of men in tights, wear capes and masks, and use silly nicknames ?

What's wrong with rough play amongst kids?? It's a good thing. Sometimes, little Timmy needs a good punch in the nose for being a little s**t, and his mother either isn't there to spank him or won't spank him. What's childhood without cracked bones and bruises. Kids don't even have fully-formed bones at these ages, and if there is a God the reason he made them this way is because he knew good and durned well kids would literally bodily attack the world and each other for the first 12 years of life.

IMO, a child who doesn't play rough grows up to be an adult that whines and moans, sues for every little thing, and in general still acts like a child and a puss. I'm going to put on my cape when I get home, just to protest, damnit.

Willow it isn't TTD yet. I know you're excited, but caaalm doowwwn a bit girl.

I agree.
And might I add that:

It is incredibly important for kids to make experience with rough play or fights at early ages. They still learn by experience and so they comprehend the meaning of hurting and being hurt. Being brought up extremely peacefully can lead (and has led) children to excessively test and use aggressive behaviour in puberty where it's not as harmless as in elementary school.
A 14-year old can (and has) beat another 14-year old to death. And he/she does so not because he/she played superhero in elementary but maybe because he/she was abstained from violence and is now getting high on something new.
