Right now, I'm working on a Ranger in BG1 that I want to be able to duel-wield two scimtars or longswords, or whatever is available. The problem is, a Beast Master, what I want my Ranger to become, cannot use metal weapons. Now, I've looked at the benefits of an Archer and whatever the other one was (Stalker?), and they just don't seem like the kind of character I'd want my Ranger to be. Is there any exception for the Beast Master, so he can duel-wield some type of weapon, or will he have to stick with all the wooden ones?

Of all the charecters you dont want to be Beastmasters are near the top, I think perhaps staffs and clubs arnt metal weapon, shudders. Oh by the way stalkers are excellent the only leather is no big deal because the shadow dragon armour counts as leather and its easy to get their AC down to -6. The whole sneak behind enemy lines and having a good tank backstabbing more than makes up for any faults they have. Actually youd be surprised how good an archer can be look at the whole description, a lot of people think its the best ranger kit.

The wooden weapons are just the staff and the club. This means that even a cleric has acces to better equipment. If you see a ranger as someone very close to nature and it's animals and want to take the beastmaster kit, you'd be wise not to spend your points on the scimitars and longswords, but invest in the wooden weapons. Dual classing to or from a cleric won't help you either, as you'd still be stuck with the beast master's limitations. I'm sure it will prve to be a challenging game
Did you think about equipping your beastmaster with a club in each hand? I bet that would be a lot of fun too
