I overlooked that detail. Yeah, tie and short sleeve just doesn't look right. I'd say a bowtie, maybe, if you're going for that uber-nerd look. But then you'd have to add suspenders, a pocket protector and thick rimmed glasses (tape on the bridge optional).

Unless you have a career as a supermarket assistant manager...

My first "real" job as a programmer I was working 2nd shift, starting @ 4pm. The day shift wore shirts/ties, but we were business casual. Until a rule was issued that we had to meet the daytime dress code, but only for the first hour. Right, like we were supposed to bring a change of clothes? By day we had probably 500 employees. At night there were about 20 of us. As a protest we all picked goofy/funny ties. Mine was a clip-on bowtie, black with white spots. But even then I wore long sleeves...

I concur.

Only young male children (under the age of 12) can get away with short sleeves and a tie.

My problem with ties is this: as I am shorter than average (but I am the correct height for a man from the Renaissance) ties that I purchase are too long--I have to have them altered to shorten the length.
