OOC>>>A Succubus comes out holding a sign with a big #3 on it as a bell is heard in the distance, but most of the spectators care little about the sign...

Round 3

Pandaros was busy stabbing with what limited arm manuverability he had left in the clutches of the ettin while cursing his involvement in this job. Xaver pitched forth his axe toward the arm that was holding his partner in this employment with the town of Lockesville but the ettin saw the wind up and dodged the throw, but was unable to get his full body out of the way in time, and so took a slash to his shoulder as he tried to move away. The stabbing of Pandaros had finally got to him however, and so the ettin threw Pandaros from his grasp, right at Xaver. Xaver saw the throw coming, and dodged the throw just in time, but this gave Pandaros the stone floor to hit instead of a soft dwarf. He met the floor with a crash, followed by a lot of pain.

"Stupid food in can hold still"! said the first.

OOC>>>Ettin received damage from stabs to the hand and the axe cut on the shoulder.

Pandaros received 8hp damage by being thrown as a projectile towards the floor.

Prayer spell is still in affect and was used in the appropriate places.

Sever

The sudden sounds of battle ahead had been a welcoming sign indeed. Not only did it tell Sever that Pandaros and Xaver were alive (for now) but they were very close. Still, it took an eternity before he was in the same room of the cavern and could size up the beasty for himself and by that time, the battle was several rounds in. As best he could tell, the ranger had just been used as an anti-dwarf projectile and had crashed hard against the floor.

Pushing aside his want to see if Pandaros was okay, Sever reasoned it better to make use of his shadow whilst he was still hidden within it. He doubted any backstab he could muster would be spectacularly effective against a creature so large (and two headed - wait 'til the boys back home heard this tavern tale!) but it would buy his comrades some time. It would take a hit and run approach by all three to take this brute down.

Hugging the walls of the cavern, Sever flanked the ettin until he judged he was at its back. Taking several quick paces and jumping as high as he could, he thrust his silver steel as close to the centre of the ettin's back and with as much force as he could and then quickly rolled back to the cavern's edge.

OOC>>edited attack slightly to conform with creature's height.

Vincent Pathfinder

Thumbing through an inside pocket, Vincent pulled out a small ceramic jar and some cloth. Opening the jar he dabbed the cloth in it and then applied it to the wound on the cougar. The cougar was asking about a swan, Vincent did not recall seeing one and so replied to the cougar. As he was saying this, Tao was padding in there direction. "Here she come's" he said to the cougar.

The magical little hut was actively testing those either inside, or on the threshhold, so it was curious that a spindly old man, reeking of cheap booze but appearing none the worse for wear walked in, ignoring them, pulled the chord again. (Once more the light flickered, the tiles went grey, and a door appeared near Gilliam, although a few inches to the right of where it had been.) The old man walked in and to the door, pulled it open and began descending a wrought iron spiral staircase. Looking back once he asked "Are you boys coming or not?" before continuing down into the darkness.

OOC: Meet Oley

Turning he entered the doorway and walked down the stairway after Oley, taking the stairs as quickly as he felt able to catch up.

Pandaros

The tirade came to an abrupt halt as Pandaros crashed to the floor. He groaned and rolled away from the monster, mind reeling as he tried to come up with a plan.

'Time to run?' he thought to himself. His hands swept the floor, searching for his discarded bow. 'Not time to run yet,' he decided, 'just keep thinking of the reward.'

If he locates his bow, he will fire arrows in the direction of the fighting, aiming high.

Xaver

Xaver curesed silently after throwing his axe. The battle axe wasn't built for throwing and did not perform at this job as well as he hoped for. He made a mental note about buying one or two proper throwing axes, first thing after getting back to town. If he ever gets back there alive.

Still, the desired effect was achived and Pandaros was back on the ground... in a way. Xaver managed to get out of the scout's path. And was relieved when he saw him moving again.

Sorry Pandaros, no time to cast my healing spells...

Xaver moved forward, and putting all his strength into it, swung his axe trying to hit the ettin's knee.

Round 4

Sever successfully makes a sneak attack.

The ettin knew that he was facing off against two attackers, so when the stabbing pain came to his back, the surprise had its own effect along with the stabbing pain that he was now suffering.

The ettin screamed loud, reaching behind him to try and remove the blade but he could not reach it.

"AHH!! Stupid something bite me! It hurt really bad! AHH!" They were both screaming. Each head was looking around to see what had caused the pain. It turned around and around, trying to search for this third attacker when Xaver came up and whacked the ettin on the knee hard enough to hear a sickening crunch of bone. The ettin had seen him coming, but barely had time to react before the dwarf was on him, and did not have the time to defend against the blow. (racial bonus of dwarf vs. giant)

"AHH" The ettin was screaming again, and the pain caused him to stumble forward but caught himself before falling by reaching out and placing his big hand along the cave wall. One head looked over and saw Pandaros feeling around in the dark and also that of the retreating dwarf who had just bashed his knee with that hammer. The other head on the ettin was still looking for the third attacker and finally noticed him, a few paces behind. Both heads had their targets picked out, but they could not agree on who to attack first because between the two of them, they only had one leg each. Being that the left leg had been hit by the hammer, the head on the right urged the attack to go after the third food hiding in the back (sever) and with effort, hobbled his way right at the backstabbing thief. While the ettin was lunging for him, following the attack that the right head was requesting, the left head kept trying to look back at the dwarf and human that had been the original attackers. He was not going to let them sneak up on him.

OOC>>>Lots going on in this scene.

Nobody has taken damage in this turn because Sever's sneak attack at the rear of the monster together with Xaver's stumbling attack from the front all caused enough confusion and frustration as to render the ettin useless during this round.

The ettin having two seperate heads is showing its weakness as to it trying to decide on a movement and then proceeding to make that movement. Both heads have to be in agreement for that to happen, if that was not apparent in my writing.

The ettin has taken damage. He's down to 54% of his HP which I think counts him as "wounded".

Sever's blade is still lodged in the ettin's back.

Pandaros searches for his bow and finds it at the end of this round, but the bow has been slightly damaged, showing some splintering. It is still usable, however. With the round ended, I'll carry your move through to the next round unless you change your mind and post a new move.

Sever

"Greetings Lads! Have you missed me?" Said Sever with what he hoped would be infectious charm. "Time for explanations later. For the moment, i suggest we.."

Sever broke off his comment when it became apparent that the lumbering brute was now advancing for him. It was too dark for missile weapons to be effective but Sever didn't like the thought of going head to heads with this creature. Drawing three of his throwing daggers in his right hand, he aimed high at the large dark mass (above what he percieved to be head height for his comrades) and let fly with all three. He then made ready to dive away from any counter attack, preferring his odds with the rocky cavern floor to those against the ettin's hands.

OOC>>Sever has a strategy in mind, but is yet unable to tell Pandaros and Xaver. If he's succesful in an evasive roll, it will in a direction that places him furthest from his comrades.

Xaver

With his adrenaline rising, Xaver finally began to feel the thrill of battle. He watched his warhammer move towards its target and felt with satisfaction the resistance offered by the impact with the knee. The crunch of bone was music to his ears.

Killing ettins: a pleasure for all senses. Only the stench could stand some improvement.

Suddenly Xaver noticed that the reason he was able to hit the monster so easily was because the creature was distracted by something behind it. Then he saw Sever.

What the heck... Where did he come from?

But there was no time to think about it now. The ettin finally made a decision and started moving away from him towards Sever.

"Come back here you son of an aboleth!" Xaver shouted, then dashed forward, and swung his hammer at the same knee he has hit before.
