Well, of course everybody has his favorite spells, and these are the ones he picks when levelling up. But a big factor also is buying spellbooks, I didn't pick a spell since level 5 or 6, but both of my bishops have around 40 spells. There's a LOT to try out if you can simply invest some money

Never forget your towel, cheers

I am new to this board but I would have to say that SLOW & CHARM are pretty useless in battle.

You really should try to get as much spells as you can learn, even if you have no intention of using it, if only for the additional spellpoints. I hoard much of my spell picks for higher level spells, and buy everything else from the market.

Nordoki:

It would come down to play style & tactics.

If this was an online game like EQ i could put money on it that there would be 1 "best" spell setup / fight tactics. )This is what happened in Everquest. Everyone worked out tactics but it was claimed by most of thr players that "x" class should be played "y" way to be most effective. This came down to the "perfect" group setups also in EQ and it really killed it for some classes that people consider'd "useless along with a wide range of spells alot of the classes could use".

Games that aren't online will differ in tactics / playstyles & are what make the game so interesting and playable multiple times through.

I never use sonic boom; it does no damage, and the times I've tried it never gave any result. Of course I might have tried more often

What about 'Detect Secrets'? Does this just replace the "Search" (magnifying glass icon), or has this spell revealed some hidden cave/room etc?

It increases your chances of detecting hidden items. (especially useful if you have no characters with a decent "senses stat" as that affects search (magnify icon). I dont use it often but if i know there's an item around and no decent senses stat on a character i will cast Detect Secrets just so i can find the item faster.

So, for example I now have a couple of characters with Senses of 100 (and in one case, has an item equipped that gives an extra 5%), the Detect Secrets spell should now be totally useless?

Well no,Say this is all true. You would (if I understand correctly)still have to be search mode to gain the benfit of the senses level. While the Detect Secrets spell shows stuff without risking being surprised.

Ok you guys are all wrong every spell is worthless !!! Put your fighter up front and rush everything... Then you cant go wrong thats why mages, priests and ect.. all die real fast. The ONLY spell i find of value of getting is death wish and THEN cast every time your in battle and watch the results. Works great against sorcerous and there weak elementals and then rush and KILL the queen. shes weak and so are her knights.

Killing is my business and business is good...
