Been thinking of dusting off the old BG2 cds and trying out an all mage party, anyone done this? I am thinking of giving each mage a theme, something like;

Freeman Fireborn:
Dwarf, CN, Mage
Level 1
----------
Burning Hands
Magic Missle
Chromatic orb

Level 2
----------
Agannazar's Scorcher
and so on and so on.

Any suggestions?

Not that uncommon, but the general theme is one from each specialist school.

Thought about it but decided instead on having mages who can only cast a specific theme.

One who can only use fire.
One who can only use ice/cold.
One who can only summon.
One who can only buff.
One pacafist (doesnt fight and spells are limited to things such as identify etc)
Perhaps a sixth, if I can think of one, or if I take Edwin.

you could try specifically poisin/acid? although addmittantly there are not a huge number of poisin/acid spells

I did an all mage party in BG1 using 3 PCs (conjurer, T/M, & C/I) and 3 NPCs Xzar,Xan, and Edwin - mageling madness - I had originally planned to take it on to BG2 as well - it was fun at first but the micromanaging of six mages for every battle eventually got to me and I abandoned them...

You can see details of their journey here -

Mageling Madness

An all mage type group in BG2 would be much easier I think since you start at level 7+ rather than level 1...I would probably still want a T/M and C/M tho...

A whole group of Wild Mages

For your go through, with the whole "One can do this, the other that" I would recomend the sorcerer class for them. That way, you can use the powers more often, and don't have to assign them the pesky mage way
