Fonts in DC
In DC, you can select the font you want to use in your game, but I assume that this requires the player to have this font, too.
Does this mean that if we have a certain nice font, that we need the player to install this separately first? And what font is shown if the required font is missing? (Also, I think I remember something about Manikus having a nice font reminiscent of the old Gold Box games... )

Re: Fonts in DC
I think some older versions of windows try to emulate the respective font. I have not yet tested what Vista and 7 do... I remember I asked something similar in another thread, and Manikus (as almost always) could help. But I cannot remember what he explained back then...

Re: Fonts in DC
Boy that manikus sure does talk a lot...
Uatu, you are correct about the game font. If there is a font that you simply cannot have your game without, you might try finding a freeware version (there are thousands of them out there) and include it with your download. As for what happens when the expected font is not found, Dinonykos actually provided the answer. Most fonts have meta-data that tells what font family they are part of (think CSS), so DC will pull a font from the same family. Some of us have thousands of installed fonts on our system, so we should be good. As for that font...it is specifically the FRUA font. And it can be downloaded from: http://one.xthost.info/elminster/FRUA_font.zip |

Re: Fonts in DC
Awesome, thanks! The creator of this nice font was... manikus, am I right?
Can I ask what kind of metadata might be in this font?

I'll look into it. If I can add it, what font family should this belong to? I think that makes us about even then. Sometimes I can remember what I've talked about as well. I do better with you and Uatu have talked about for some reason; probably because there is not quite as much volume... |

Re: Fonts in DC
Er... Are there any font families besides sans-serif and serif?

Re: Fonts in DC
In CSS there are all kinds of font families...there are generic family names like serif, cursive, sans-serif, monospace, fantasy, etc.; but the font-family names are times, arial, courier, etc.
So, ideally the font would be installed, if not, DC asks Windows to look to a font in the font family, if that isn't possible, into the generic family, and if none there, the system font is used. Here are a couple of pages with good articles that explain it like I did and kind of like I did, respectively. http://www.w3schools.com/CSS/pr_font_font-family.asp http://webdesign.about.com/od/fonts/a/aa080204.htm Last edited by manikus; 01-19-2010 at 11:34 PM. |

Re: Fonts in DC
Ah, that's right, I seem to remember something about that now... So DC is kind of like CSS then?

Re: Fonts in DC
Nope. DC lets Windows handle all of the font stuff.
