parachute didn't deploy. Looks like the capsule is fairly intact but beat up pretty badly. Who knows if the experiments are ruined or not.

Yea... it was a sample return capsule. I was watching it on nasa tv. Everything looked good until the point where the chute was supposed to open.

I just watched the video.. Man, that is sad to see. I hope they can salvage some data from the tiles. All that work...

Argh, and all but the last couple of parts of the operation worked - the parachute and the backup (whatever that was). Did you see how far it's buried though? Quite an impact.

They had realy really good video of it slamming into the dirt. I expected it to end up in a lot more pieces.

NASA says they may still be able to salvage some, if not most, of the sample material.
