Klorox, I know what you mean. My thief is getting totally hammered. I have maxed HP on but he still gets killed in every turn.

My dad managed to take a pure class thief in his group without it getting whacked overmuch.

I played a pure thief twice, and a fighter(2)->thief once. Never had any particualr trouble keeping him alive either.

It's not a matter of keeping that character alive. It's that they're so much more useful if multiclassed.

I disagree, a bit. I absolutely agree that a thief character has many more options if multiclassed (to anything), but it is difficult to keep a pure thief alive. You either have to play it as an underpowered archer, or you have to micromanage it in combat. It is a natural target for enemies if it fights in melee, because of its low HP and sneak attack.
