Thank guys,

O.K., I managed to roll a 90 (yea!) but came up with a dilemma: with 18 ability points invested in STR, my STR was 18/84. This was almost like having a roll of 91 *IF* I put 18 ability into STR. It was more of a temptation than I could handle, Dundee. After verifying that I had access to good AC modifiying equipment, potions of DEX and spells of Cat's Grace, I opted to fill in STR and leave DEX to be augmented, instead of vice versa. So, Druulf's stats are:

STR = 18/30 --> 18/84
DEX = 9 ------> 16
CON = 18 -----> 18
INT = 8 ------> 3
WIS = 17 -----> 18
CHA = 18 -----> 17

Again, thank you for your help!

Party On!

Well, it's been about 2 years since I started adventuring with Druulf. I can see that I was STILL confused at that time about what was required and what was advantageous; and I want to document the discoveries I've made about the DC Fighter/Druid; so will reorganize my thoughts below.

You need to have 15 in the prime requisites for the class you are DCing FROM; and 15 + 2 = 17 points in the prime requisites for the class you are DCing TO. WIS and CHA are Druid prime requisites, and STR is the prime requisite for a Fighter. So, the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM to DC a Fighter --> Druid is:

STR = 15
DEX = 3
CON = 3
INT = 3
WIS = 17
CHA = 17
TOTAL = 58

And a sad, Sad, SAD Fighter/Druid it would be!

To maximize the Fighter's ability to dish out ranged weapon damage, and (much more importantly) to have the lowest possible AC, DEX must be maximized. For a Human, this means natural (rolled) DEX = 18; which gives an AC bonus of 4. Every point less in DEX yields 1 point less of AC bonus down to 15, after which there is no bonus at all. (Let me take a moment to wave my hat to Dundee Slaytern and say, yet again, you are right: I wished so many times, over my bleeding Druid, that I had maxed DEX instead of STR with those few discretionary points I had.)

And CON = 18 is needed to maximize the bonus HP garnered with each clvl, up through Fighter[9]. Glad I got this one right. Druulf, now at Fighter[10]/Druid[18] is at 164 HP! (I forget whether or not he is wearing anything that might give him a small HP bonus; but suspect he is not.)

And STR, above the minimum 15, is desired to maximize damage in melee. Topping this stat out, though (much to my surprise), is not nearly as important for a Fighter as DEX; and, for a tank, is even edged out by CON.

So, reasonable (what I would consider the MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE) DC Fighter->Druid stats are:

STR = 15
DEX = 18
CON = 18
INT = 3
WIS = 17
CHA = 17
TOTAL = 88

An 88 total is a power roll. Expect to roll for at least a half hour to get this. For a power roll over 88, allocate the points as follows:

STR = 15 (plus the 89th, 90th, and 91st points)
DEX = 18
CON = 18
INT = 3 (plus the 94th and any other extra points)
WIS = 17 (plus the 92nd point)
CHA = 17 (plus the 93rd point)

If you want the extra Druid spell, top out WIS first, before moving on to STR.

And, of course, you must align your Fighter as a True Neutral Human.

A very scientific analysis, NobleNick. Well done. I would max out Wisdom before adding points to Str, though - just my personal bias for spells.

A possible minor edit regarding the minimum stats, though - just 'cause I'm nitpicking a bit. IIRC, druids in PnP D&D have a minimum dex requirement of 12. I'm not sure if that holds for IWD. But it's minor. Someone would have to be very foolish to have a Dex under 16, minimum. A powergaming party should have every character at max Dex for their race.

Aerich,

Welcome back! And thanks for the "nitpick!" Yes, I remember looking at those minimum stats and thinking, "Wow! That is STARK! Can I really get away with it?" But DEX is not a prime req for Druid nor Fighter, so I still wonder if I need anything above a 3 in IWD. Anyone know?

And I have been made painfully aware of how true your point is about the importance of DEX. In fact, my Fighter/Druid's's pain has moved me to lay some pain on you, in the form of poetry:

Me master overlooked me DEX,
'Ter give me humungous pecs.
But the Wind tells the story,
That the Dale got pretty gory--
Monsters Iced me like T. Rex!

A Scottish druid, I see...

I would probably never use a F/D as the main tank anyway, at least until after the elemental shapechanges started kicking in.

My multi-class F/D has a Con of 9 (but Dex of 18), because I was too lazy to roll forever to get truly gigantic scores. It works fine with that party's spell and summons emphasis. The sheer quantity of healing and buffs helps too.
