According to the manual higher power levels only increase the duration of certain spells not their effectiveness (e.g. Bless, Dracon Breath and Detect Secrets). These spells have a Damage value of N/A and a Duration of 1/L. So far, so good.
There are several more spells with the same values for damage and duration. Mainly protection spells such as Enchanted Blade, Missile Shield, Armorplate, Soul and Element Shield but Superman as well. Did they "behave" like Bless, meaning that the power levels only determine the duration of those spells but not their effectiveness?

No, their effectiveness increases with the level. I'm not 100$ sure on Armorplate and Enchanted Blade, but from my experience I can really say that the others do Which actually makes sense, because for other spells, the description mentions when their effectiveness doesn't increase, as you say...
Cheers Philipp

Pyrates you are right, they do increase in power level too, not only duration, as spell power increases. Same goes for Powercast. Light however only increases in duration.

With enchant blade you can tell that casting with higher level does improve both duration and strength by looking at the damage/to hit pluses summary screen. That's the last info screen, in the top right corner of the page.
I didn't know that powercast also has an effect. I'll try casting it with my highest level powercasting Biship from now on! |

I think powercast does increase duration and probably strength of spell as well. You can also cast lower than max or lower than you think is neccessary. By this I mean a spell at lev 4 with powercast may act like a lev 5 or 6. No one knows exactly how much it improves your spells. Any conjectures are welcome.

one thing is certain about powercast - its effects are variable!
that is to say, for example, the increase to duration for a spell such as magic screen, changes with each casting, even with the same level in all relevant skills. this can be easily seen by casting a buff twice in a row, and checking the time remaining in the upper right corner. |
