Hi all.
I've just reinstalled W&W again after a reformat of my hard drive & intalling xp sp2 instead of the original xp that I had before.
I have done what I normally do. A maximum install, install the patch, & use virtual dub to uncompress all the townavi files.
The game starts normally with the original avi files. ie I can see the town but cant enter the buildings. However when I use the virtualdub files the town is only a black screen.
I have tried to adjust the gamma as it says in the tech thread but it makes no difference.
The virtualdub townavi files are 32meg & all play on windows media player. Is this correct?
I have renamed the avi files townhub1.new, townmsk1.new, etc is this correct?

The other thing that happens that I have not seen before is that if I try to play the intro it crashes. I just get a screen full of the black flames. When I try to ctrl-alt-del the task manager takes up most of the screen I have to reset my pc to get out of it.

I hope someone can help
regards kev

Hey, Kev... long time no see May all the flames you see be on the screen...

The uncompressed avi files should be townmsk1.avi and so on. I don't believe you have to resize the townhub files (I didn't). I actually copy the original townmsk files to townmsk1_old.avi and so on, and save a copy of the vdubbed files as townmsk1_new.avi and so on, in case I need to switch back and forth.

Have you changed the properties on the icon for compatibility mode? You didn't list that, and that makes a difference. I just tried Win NT mode, and it seemed to work better than the Win9x modes.

My game now works.
I redid the vdub thing but still made the mistake of leaving the townmsk files with the incorrect names.
It seems that the files need to be named correctly for the game to recognise them.
I also changed the compatability mode to NT. I dont know if this made a difference or not.
Thanks for your help once again Bungleau.

No worries, Kev Glad to see you're able to get back into the game

Amazing how those computers insist things be spelled correctly, isn't it?
