Heh, I splitted my original harddrive up in 2 drives. Left the orginal stuff(win 98 SE)on c: and installed win xp professional on d:
I can tell you that that was completely useless. Win xp uses a different registry ect.. Also, I had major diffeculties with a driver for my soundcard, which was a win 98 driver but got in xp for some reason. As for programs to run, I think every program will work as long as you have them installed under the xp registry (I think 2000 will be the same).
Just to point out, I was testing how xp would run on my system. It ran great but it has to be a stand-alone OS (if it werent for the registry)

DOS programs aren't an issue for me and I heard that XP substitutes for 95/98/2000/ME. Is this true? 'cos y friend played Might and Magic 7 on his and that is a Win95 game.
Anyone else? I'll be gone at school and won't be online until about 6pm English time.
MM7 will work on XP, no doubt about it. I´ve played it on win2000 (using that myself) and on XP with no problems at all. BUT that´s no surprise since MM7 is made for win95/98/NT-SP4.

On the topic I agree with Vaskez. I see no point in upgrading from win2000 to winXP. It may look better but that´s all.

If you have win 2000, stick to it. No real reason to upgrade to XP, few minor advanatages compared to loads of annoying user friendly features, which are good for the beginner but a pest for anyoine else, since you can't remove them.

The Direction XP is going

Thanks Sir Krustin, that's a very interesting article and proof if ever anyone needed any, that Microsoft are SCUM! These bastards will do anything to tear your hard-earned cash away from you in as many ways as possible and to take away your privacy completely.

I am seriously considering switching all my work-related tasks to Linux. Of course this will require a lot of learning but everything is free so I save time by not having to earn money to buy the products.

Also check out this article that's linked from the one above:

as good a reason as any not to upgrade to Win XP although you can block media player with ZoneAlarm etc.

Yeah, I know that Microsoft are a absolutley cruddy company. I think the main problem is that they are practically a monopoly. They won't lose customers because the customers have no-one else to go to. However, I have heard that Apple are supposed to be better and are already eating into Microsoft's profits. That's only what I've heard. My friend has an iMac and, frankly, it is SO much better. But not so many games can run on a Mac, but most newer games are now.

Ah! Another convert! Check out Debian 3.0

apt-get is just the cats a$$ when it comes to installing your application base.

The problem is, blocking things with ZoneAlarm (what I use currently when I'm running W98 for games) curtails your functionality with XP. Shit, a mouse driver won't even work without being able to "talk" to micro$haft? What a pile of nonsense.
