I just checked out the new "look" of the front page and saw the notice about the IronWorks Design Team.
What skills and requirements are needed to join the team? I have a creative imagination, especially for NPC'S and magic items...but only nominal programming skills. Just wondering if there would be anything I could contribute.

Can these NPC's be made with the "tool kit" that comes with NeverWinter Nights?
And can those same tools be used to create NPC's that would be "usable" in BGII? (such as the infamous "Acid Kensai")

PS: Don't worry about the NPC's 'Faction's, I have a custom faction called 'Universal Friendly' [ 02-27-2003, 10:59 PM: Message edited by: Ziroc ]

OK....I've been browsing eBay for a copy of NWN. I noticed they now have a Collector's Edition available - are there any "big improvements" in it, or does it just have a lot of extra merchandise coming with it(some of which looks pretty good, admittedly).
And how hard is it to work with the "tool kit". I know it is probably kid stuff to you, but I am a novice programmer at best, so I want to make sure I can provide a meaningful contribution before getting NWN. AFA the sailors, I do have a couple of ideas I've been "kicking around". One is a pair of sailors that always seem to be together, despite always bickering with each other over their girlfriend. Pretty soon, a fight breaks out and the little takes a pounding...until he pulls out a can of spinach...then a surge of adrenalin increases gives him Improved Haste and Str of 25. Brief but violent butt-kicking ensues on his suddenly hapless friend.

The toolkit is scarily easy to use. The only sticky point is scripting, but there are so many fantastic tutorials out there that in about a week of decent effort, you can crank out some rather complicated scenes.

Thanks Bardan.....any advantage to the Collector's Edition - other than the cosmetic differences?

PS: The editor IMO, is the MOST easy Editor I have ever used. a 5 year old could understand it! Seriously! After 1 day, I have complex scripts and events done with TONS of stuff! One scene in my tavern: 6 Guards guard the waterwell that goes down into Undermountains Dungeons--this waterwell is inside a Tavern. I set these Guards to attack any Monsters that follow people back out of the water well and kill the monsters, then return to thier post. I even have they yell "Protect the Tavern! Evil Creatures are about!" It's so fun!! Fun to top what you just did with something even MORE complex (which isn't REALLY complex) on ebay, don't spend over $40 for the normal version of NWN. But Watch out, NWN comes with a unique CD Key. The seller could have just copied the CD's and is USING the key. If I was you, I would buy it new. Because to play online, you gotta register an account at Bioware, and if that Key from that used copy is being used or WAS used, your copy is useless for online play. Be safe!!

Thanks for the tip, Ziroc.
I was actually looking at a "used copy" of NWN because of the low price, but the average price for a SEALED copy is around $25.00. I don't have any real motivation to play Online, since it would be hard to "match schedules" on a regular basis...but the editing part DOES sound fun. I seriously want to "create" Popeye and Bluto and have them get in a fight. That would be some good comic relief. OR....I might just "change things around" a bit. Sample dialogue: Popeye - "I yam what I yam" Bluto - "You're DRUNK is what you yam. Now stand up and quit slobbering on me!" or a PG17 version. Bluto - "Hiya pipsqueak. Sorry I couldn't go bar-hopping last night, but me and Olive did a little "hopping" of our own." HAR HAR HAR Popeye - {does patented Popeye laugh) Bluto - "What's so funny, shrimp?" Popeye - "Olive was with me last night" {laughs harder) Bluto - "NO SHE WASN'T! I was in her room all night last night!!!" Popeye - "But Olive isn't sleeping in her room this week. Her cousin from Syn Fran is visiting......his name is Castor! {Popeye falls down in a fit of uncontrollable laughter}

I think you'd be really good at this, Cerek - you've got a very fertile imagination.
The Dialog editor is REALLY easy to use as well - it's all wizards, no scripting required. |
