Look what he's trying to do now, stop Nwanko Kanu from playing for Nigeria in the African Nations Cup. He should stop buying overseas players if he doesn't want to lose them to international games.

From the esteemed English publication the Mirror.

ARSENAL are set for a new club v. country row after Kanu insisted he will play for England's World Cup rivals Nigeria in the African Nations Cup next month.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has already made it clear he is unhappy that he will lose Kanu and Cameroon defender Lauren for at least five weeks at a critical point of the season.

But Kanu, who has clashed with the Gunners before over his international commitments, is adamant he will join his team-mates for the build-up and the tournament, which starts in Mali on January 19 and lasts three weeks.

Kanu said: "Neither Arsenal nor Arsene Wenger can stop me going. The rules are very clear and they can't be changed overnight.

"It's unfortunate but Arsenal didn't just find out about this today. I am always happy to represent Nigeria. I love my country. I'm sure I can regain my Arsenal place afterwards."

Nigeria are in England's World Cup "Group of Death" which also includes Argentina and Sweden.

Arsenal stopped Kanu playing in the Sydney Olympics last year and led protests about players travelling with France to play a friendly against Australia last month.

Memnoch was bored the board was quiet, what shall i do he thought, i know i'll stick a pin into Donut and see what reaction i get, alas Donut was busy, but Lanesra was at the start of a long nightshift and had time on his hands so....

When Arsene Wenger signs these players he uses a line that go's something like "And we'll pay you £30,000-40,000 A week "for that line all he asks for is loyalty to the club not for the player to be missing at the most gruelling and injury stricken time of the season when a big squad is vital. Its not fair on the club or the fans like myself to have the best players constantly disappearing for meaningless money spinning friendlies on the other side of the world, or for tournaments such as the African nations cup. I would imagine most of the best african players are now plying their trade in Europe where most football comes to a halt between may and august why not play these tournaments then?

Let me put this to you, how would your employers feel if you went to work on monday an told them you were going to work for the company next door for six weeks, but you would be expecting them to pay you while you were gone? white coats would be in order. Watching football probabally costss me somewhere in the region of £16,000 a year for this money i expect to see my teams best players wearing the club shirt not in some far off foreign field which is not forever England

Anyway thats what i think donut would be thinking if he wasn't so busy right now Also memnoch are you English?

I agree. This is his job, and frankly we need all the help we can get at present.

ROFL!!! I can honestly say that I'm speechless with that reply. And they say that Aussie supporters are one-eyed.

Speaking of which, I'm from Sydney, not London, which probably explains why I'm so used to sporting success. As *Donut* would no doubt tell you...if he was here. Which he isn't, unfortunately...

Hi Lanesra,

While I don't agreee with you on the "useless friendly" thing (hey, I think National federations have the right to schedule practice matches on the rounds / dates that are made available for them in the schedule - even if they are playing half way around the world), I do agree that the African Nations Cup could be scheduled at a better time - ie in the usual off season as per the world cup - of course this does create a clash on the year that the world cup is held.....

Has anyone noticed what Lanesra means if you spell it backwards ?

About the topic, my opinion was in favor of the national teams, but after reading Lanesra´s speech, well... im just neutral
