For those who are curious, the requirements were released (taken from 2kgames' bioshock forum):

BIOSHOCK PC SPECIFICATIONS

Operating Systems:
Windows XP (with Service Pack 2) or
Windows Vista

Minimum System Requirements:
CPU: Pentium 4 2.4GHz Single Core processor

System RAM: 1GB

Video Card: Direct X 9.0c compliant video card with 128MB RAM (NVIDIA 6600 or better/ATI X1300 or better, excluding ATI X1550).

Sound Card: 100% direct X 9.0c compatible sound card

Hard disc space: 8GB free space

Looks like I'll be able to run my preordered copy, although at low settings. Only about a month to go!

My laptop should be able to run it, but just barely.

Is it just me or are there a lot of lousy games out there today with stupid system requirements? The games 5-6 years ago looked great and ran fine.

Yes. Always boost the min specs up a bit in your head, to get an idea of what you need to run it properly. If 1g ram and a 6600 card are min. then it will crawl on them. I would throw out any ideas about running it on a laptop fluidly also.
