Two Iraqi fighter jets forced a U-2 operating for the inspectors to end it's mission over Iraq today. Baghdad said it needed advance notification of the over-flights, but the inspectors say Baghdad was notified in advance.

Sounds like more of that famous Iraqi cooperation and compliance.

PS. Isn't it kind of ridiculous to think a U-2 can spot something covert when the Iraqi's are warned in advance that an over-flight is coming?

EDIT - I just saw this story on CNN, so I don't have a link yet.

The inspectors should have insisted and seen if the Iraqis actually had the cohones to get this party started.

Compliance would be no notice and no option to say no. Then, I would quit advocating for Saddam's head on a stick. Until them, I can't wait to see his rotting carcass. I'm usually not *this* graphically violent, but this guy really gets me. No, second thought, scratch that. I'm generally more graphically violent than I take credit for.

MSNBC reports that both U-2 surveilance flights today were interferred with by Iraqi fighters. It was an American U-2, so before anyone can beat me to it...

A.) This is a lie by the US government.

B.) The US plane did something wrong, so it was our fault and can't be blamed, in any way, on the cooperative, peaceful Iraqi regime.

C.) Both A & B

If it was a US plane, the only thing it did wrong was not lock and fire. Oh, wait, the U-2 has no weapons does it? Well, it should have got some backup to lock and fire.

If "painting" a target from the ground in Iraq gets the ground target popped, why doesn't this? I want to know. It truly irks me that some piddly nation stood up to the US and did not outright get shot to hell for it. Oooops, how do I keep saying these things out loud??

Maybe I'm a warmonger after all.

Interesting.... I suppose that this changes things from what many Diplomats have been refering to about Husseins..."New spirit of cooperation" What a farse.
This issue is very interesting, because it really shows, how much of a dumbass Hussein is (in some small ways). He has got permenent members risking everything on this next resolution, fighting like hell in his behalf, and 'ole Sadam isnt smart enough to play them worse than he already is. Then again something tells me he fully understands our detractors more than we perhaps do.
He really should take this opportunity to "settle his score" with the Kerds and other minority groups/detractors, while he has the chance. All of his actions since the end of the Gulf War, have ironically awarded him with quite a bit of sympathy, especially from many of our Western European compatriots. Why stop now if you're Sadam? Anything he does will be blamed on the United Kindgom's and the United State's "bullying" tactics. Bastard he is, Sadam is a great poker player and a better psychologist than many of us will ever dream to be.
This is where the similarities between he and Hitler end. Sadam isnt quite as bold as Hitler was, despite an overwhelming number of stark similarities to his style and all around ruthlessness. Hitler too played up to the "over-sensibilities" of many of his western European counterparts. He used sympathy to divide one time stonch allies, who originally had the will to carry out the necessary steps to diffuse WWII before it began. Now, here we are fifty years later and history is repeating itself. Whom ever came up with that saying was one of the great genius' in mankinds history.

LMAO!!! Good one Ronn but at the same time, your sample defines the entire issue. The issue is blatantly obvious. None of our "friends" in the UN care two hoots in hell about disarming Iraq, no one with common sense would first claim he has no WMD's then continually evolve their viewpoint as their original one is continually debunked. No one, unintentionally that is. This whole issue, is more than obviously becoming one where its about trying to keep the US tied down in Red Tape and not at all about Iraq. Now why on earth would "friends" do that to one another? In short they dont.
I second Ronn's post. We accept full responsibility for the U2 incident. It was of course our complete and utter fault. Heh, now what are you going to use as an argument? LMAO!!

Question Mark

After this obvious continuing cooperation display, were I the CDR on the ground, I would call Mr Blix up and say "You and your team have 48 hours. Get out now. If you can't get out, don't be anywhere that we will considder targets .... you know what those will be."
