Microsoft proposes piracy amnesty
Quote:
Microsoft has announced what it hopes will be a new attack on piracy. The company has decided to give away software to those who bought machines with fake copies pre-installed.
Ok, fair enough, they don't want their software being copied illegally. But I honestly think that the more they take desparate measures to stop it, rather than let a little through on the side, the more revenue they'll use. Some people will be motivated even more to copy MS Software, and others will find it harder to get it, and so move to other systems and recommend their friends to do the same. MS are digging their own grave.

They've done well for themselves so far. I imagine they've thought of all the angles.

That is the stupidest thing I have heard all week. People who have fake copies installed will know this anyway (well some) and will probably have wanted it that way, this way they are just getting encouraged to do it again.

I'm sure that things will be conditional on the buyers being able to give reciepts and written statements with a willingness to help in prosocution of the bigger fraud retailers.

Just like police ignoring the addicts as long as they dob in thier dealer

Sounds good. Is that proposal also covers Asia? I'm sure Microsoft office in Asia will have a very busy day with hundreds or perhaps thousands of people coming to claim their real software from Microsoft.
