Well I've seen George say that he will not ever make 7, 8 and 9. I can't believe the rumour that he won't make any money if there's no Star Wars in the can in the next few years. He wasn't going broke before he decided to make 1, 2 and 3, and frankly I don't think he's scratching out a living . Plus while 1, 2 and 3 provided 'closure' in a weird prequel-like way, explaining how things got to be the way they were in 4, 5 and 6, there's no real need to tell what happens after episode 6 - everything is neatly tied up and finished. AFAIK 7, 8 and 9 would be about Han and Leia's children, which is a separate and unnecessary story to tell. IMHO

That would be one of the stupidest things of the decade if Georgey did that IMO.

Just as long as there are no more "Jarjar"s and the current one gets killed somehow, I don't care whether he makes another 50 more starwars films. Oh, and no more whiny Skywalkers...

First off (and this might be a spoiler if you haven't read the books)
There won't be another Skywalker for thirty years (after the Battle of Endor)...Also, George said, in allowing the books to be released in 1992, that THEY would tell the story, and that there would only be one OFFICIAL STORY LINE. Now, slap my face and call my susie, I highly doubt that George is going to make a movie about the Thrawn Trilogy, or any of the books, because he didn't write those! They'd have to be set after the Yuuzhaan Vong invasion for fresh ground, and then, well, Peter Mayhem is not going to be in his original role, is he? If he would take a good long and hard look at KoToR and jedi academy, I wouldnt mind if he just made movies of that caliber. Let Skywalker die peacefully and get on with the show. There are plent wannabee jedi's out there, who want to do cool lightsaber-stuff, so make a flick about them, and screw the trilogy-based storylines. He's proven he is completely inept to do that right. </font>

You never know; I mean, we could see Episode 3 and be somewhat surprised by its' superlative qualities, and then 7, 8 and 9 turn out to be masterpieces of cinema. Give the Man With No Neck another chance, as long as he's prepared to pay for them. If not... *sigh* well, if they turn out bad, no skin off our teeth.
As for setting the story in certain time periods, quite frankly GLucas could set the films in the same timeframe as after ROTJ, during the YV invasion, during the Thrawn saga... with a completely different storyline. He doesn't have to adhere to anything the other novelists have come up with. Not Salvatore, not Zahn, not anyone.

That's not something I want to happen, honestly.... I have read WAY too many books to even remotely like that possibility. That would just open the saga to other book series set after the "real" movies, and we'd end up with a thousand different storylines and no closure whatsoever....

Hey, SWars fans the world over were dead certain the Prequels were supposed to be called A Last Hope, Rise of the Empire and End of the Jedi. Lucas sure blasted THAT pleasant fantasy to pieces!

Lucas not make money if there's not another Star Wars movie? He owns the best special effects company on the planet, and he also does games. He probably makes out pretty good with the books written by Zahn, Salvatore, and the others.
