Surprised by Phaere - Help! (Spoiler!)

Just got back to the Underdark after cleaning out the mindflayers. I was reprovisioning at the gnome village and was attacked by Phaere. I had to slay her.

She mentionned something about knowing who I was and that the Spider Queen was watching.

Question: I understand from other posts that she was to give me some fake eggs. If she's not around anymore, is this quest all but toast??? Anyone else run into this surprise attack from Phaere?

You took too damn long to clear out the Illithid nest. You only get like 3 days from the time the Matron gives you the quest to complete it. If you don't finish in time, you are found out. You're done. You may as well try to get out of the Underdark now...

Thanks. I'm glad to here that it may only be a time issue. I stayed overnight at the gnome village before reprovisioning. I likely have a saved game prior to my sleep over with the gnomes. I'll load up the saved game and try returning to the Drow city immediately.

Try clearing out the mindflayers BEFORE getting the quest might be a good idea. I think I did that.

Yeah. I cleared the Kuo-toans, Mind Flayers and Beholder lairs before speaking to Adalon in the first place

if you can still get the real eggs you have a chance to kill the being they summon and save the eggs. Don't know if this is harder though i didn't try it.

Is it even possible to get into a fight with that Lesser Demon Lord the Matron Mother summons?

i dont know the answer to your problem but just remmember after helping adalon (?) KILL ALL THE DROW! only do this if you quite powerful but it is alot of fun watching all those evil-does die HA HA HA HA HA

Welcome DL!

I had the same problem but I didn't have a saved game early enough. I ended up going and fighting my way past the guards and golems, stealing the eggs, and fighting my way out of the drow city. You can do it. I ended up killing everything in the underdark except the dragon.
