Of course you need it! And you get it only in chapter 5 so far i know. When you use a cheat, then of course sooner. But i dont like cheats, even if i play the game the xx time.

First, as I said in my earlier post on this Minsc question ... Get Minsc the Shield of Harmony and you'll never have another Confusion, Charm, Domination, or Hold problem again. Yes, it will prevent him from wielding 2H weapons. So what? Arm him with Azuredge (the undead-killing throwing axe) and the Mace of Disruption (+2 version) and you have an undead-hunting Minsc!!! Talk about a killing machine!!! Minsc practially becomes invulnerable to those blood-sucking vamps!!!

Personally, I'm rather fond of the Avenger sword. 50% Magic Resistance and dispel magic on any hit can be darned useful against some of the tougher mage bosses that are floating around in BG2. (One caveat... don't use HA to attack a mage that Jahiera has cast Insect Swarm on!!! The Dispel Magic will make it disappear. Ooops... My undead hunter made that mistake in the slaver HQ on the 2nd floor. Luckily, most of the other slavers were dead and the mage was nearly there as well.)

Personally, I've never been a big fan of 2H swords. Yes, I know that they're more powerful in BG2, but I generally prefer my tanks to be the best protected tanks possible. I'm willing to accept a little less offensive potential to become as untouchable as possible. Just my personal preference.

Cernd certainly must've smoked something nasty when he was young. Jan Jansen, however, is the most brilliant character in the game. Personally, I don't play a game at all unless it can make me laugh, and Jan's almost made me drop a lung on several occasions.
As for Viconia, she's the best cleric in the game, hands down. Jaheira's a druid.

Ok I joined this thread really late but I love Minsc. I actually dropped him for Valygar and I really miss him. His personality is superb whereas Valygar sucks. Yes Valygar with the Fury rocks, but I agree with the other posts, give Minsc Lilacor or the Shield of Harmony and his one weakness is overcome. He can even dual wield maces straight away, which is very handy in the Cemetary versus the skeletal undead. Yes, some other NPC's can be better killing machines, but none have his charm. His quest sucks though, it should have been much longer as I completed it shortly after meeting Aerie without even trying. I used him throughout BG1 and even gave him the tome of strength rather than use it on my character, a mage, because he was so much fun. I love the line at the start of BG2 when he hints at how he kept Boo out of sight after his capture...

OK my bad about Crom Faeyr for some reason I was thinking about the Girdle of Hill Giant strength.

Anyway Crom Faeyr is THE best weapon in the game, followed by Celestial Fury.

See?? This is what I mean! This thread is so cool and I missed it!! (well at least the last part of it)

I didn't even get to thank MidNightForce for his German Minsc comments (actually your translations are quite good!) or Memnoch for his 'flattery'

Offtopic:

To everybody who just misses my ambrozine voice and intelligent posts so incredibly in the eerily silent lapses following my random appearances on this board: I'm unable to be online all the time so I apologise if I keep bumping old threads and answering things that you said to me two days ago...
It's really inconvenient and sometimes frustrating but I cannot always use this account + I'm very busy! I hope you guys will forgive me!

MidNightForce: you missed me that's so sweet! If you have sound files of Korgan, by all means send them. As I said before, your translations were quite good
Cleric: No I'm not a necromancer, what made you think that? The fact that I use one of Xzar's lines for a signature or are you simply so obsessed by the creepy critters that you see them everywhere (I remember they're your fave specialists)

I like his comments too. He is a little comic relief in a pretty dark game. I suppose you hated C3PO and JarJar too huh? Oh wait, everyone hates JarJar...=)
