The mindflayers in the sewer below the Temple district are kicking my arse! Any advice on taking them out and is it worth it? Do I need to whack them to finish the Unseeing Eye quest?

Thanks!

1. No, they are not part of the Unseeing Eye quest.

2. There are a number of posts regarding mindflayers. (patting self on back) The best one was entitled "Aggressive Mindflayer Tactics", initial post by me.

Basically, it comes down to this...

Cast the preist spell "Chaotic Commands" onto your toughest and highest INT tank(s). This protects them against nearly all of the mindflayer psionic attacks.

Have those tanks drink either or both potion of Genius and Mind Focusing. Both will increase you INT. The remaining MF attack not protected by Chaotic commands is thier INT drain. INT drain treats INT like hit points, temporarily draining 5 INT per hit. Drinking these potions adds INT, hence adds "virtual" HP vs INT drain.

Send in ONLY the protected tanks to attack the MF's. Only after the MF's have fully focsed on the protected tanks can you have the remainder of your party sneak up and support the tanks with magic and ranged weapons.

Pay close attention to your tanks' INT. If their INT hits 0, they're dead. The INT drain is only temporary ... only a few rounds. If you can manage it, withdraw a seriously INT drained tank from the melee for a few rounds until the INT returns to normal.

FYI, due to his low INT, Minsc is very susceptible to INT drain.

Personally I liked the 'shove an invisible guy in the door' trick. There's only one illithid encounter without a good, strong door handy. : )
