I have managed both jindols without the Athletics skill at all several times Athletics isn't needed, on the other hand, some basic experience in climbing walls is very helpful.

Ya know... I could never master that "cast jump while jumping" skill in MM7, and I have yet to master this "climbing walls" thing in W&W... one of these days, maybe...

That is true. The athletics skill does not affect jumping while running at the same time. It does, however, affect running any horizontal distance. One does not really notice at any other point in the game, but try taking a character with athletics skill one and let him or her compete against one with level twelve in catching up with the mine trolleys. Amazing difference.
