Wolfgir - poetry in english (and most languages i believe) doesn't need to rhyme to be poetic. it's what's in the words that counts. i would love to see one in sweedish if you have one.

Memnoch, Cloudy, BK - Shakespeare was a much underated poet i believe - i have a little book of his sonets that i take with me to weddings - majestic.

BK - that's heartbreaking and beautiful at once. i'm stunned

and Bilqis - i agree, thanks.

Keep them comming people - food for the soul

Yorick...

Celtic poets valued alliteration rather than rhyme. Hebrew poets valued writing a saying and then it's opposite to emphasise the meaning of the first.

Rhyme and meter do assist retention though.

"No. It can't be played"
"Can I look at it?
"No we've seen enough of that one....."

The bed
it calls me
draws me

Slumber shall befall
as I rest my weary head
engaging in a sleep
of the dead?
I hope not

Thunder sounded this morning 'fore I rose
round six
or so

And all in this house
and houses all around I'm sure
were wakened
by the fall
of rain

The thunder was like bombs
Yet bombs sound like thunder
I wonder if it's good for my health
or wealth
to wonder

I waited for response
It looks as though in vain
My strength begins to wane
and I'm falling
asleep

Goodnight.
