I need to steal something while the owner is in the same room as me. I don't have any sneak skill and am not planning to go get trained just for this. How can I take it without her raising the alarm? What if I blind her? Will she get upset by that?

Thanks

Is it an important person ? If not, taunt and destroy.

If you cannot kill the person in question:

Easy way:

steal whatever you need to steal then run away.
strip your char of every stolen item in your inventory, which shouldn't be much since you cannot sneak, then leave everything on the ground.
go talk to the nearest guard and pay the fine.
pick up your stuff again.

Or, if you are able to, talk to those who can remove the price on your head, you will save half of the money

Only one problem, if you get caught stealing, the fine will be the value of the item you stole. So avoid stealing a daedric dai katana (120k worth)

Hard way:
get a chamaleon spell / item / scroll and cast it. then sneak - chamaleon will compensate your lack of skill. Try to avoid direct lighting and wait for the person in the room to turn around. If he doesn't want to turn, just get near the guy and walk around him in circles. usually they try to follow your movement and turn to watch you. once the fellow is looking away from the item you want, move backwards a bit. once you are far enough, walk around the dumbass, cast your spell and sneak.

LOL well it's just a letter - probably not worth much

I'll try that chameleon thing I guess... I read somewhere that telekinesis was useful for thieving? Does anyone know about that?

for telekinesis, first hide yourself from the person view ( behind a cupboard or something ), then cast telekinesis into the item you want to get.

Basically telekinesis makes your arms longer, so that you can get items from far away. You must still have visual of the item, and must avoid detection from NPCs. Quite useful, but not that easy to use IMO.

What about an invisibility potion or spell, wouldn't that work if noone are looking in your direction?

invisibilty sounds fun but it's not, when you cast it the moment you do something like touch an object or attack something, the spell will go off immediately and you'll be seen by anyone in the place.

imo, chameleon spell is much better because the spell effect last and will not go off if you do something.

Actually invisibility is pretty useless in morrowind. You use that spell only when you cannot sneak by someone hostile.
