I have been playing as the thief for some time now. im leader of the Morag Tong, Great House Hlaalu, and the Thieves guild. Im working my way up to ladder of th East Empire Company when i realised, whats the point? What is the point of being leader of any guild? you dont get special priveledges, or get to command anyone. for example, if i wanted something stolen, i can't hire a thief to do it for me. so what is the purpose of leading a guild? what are the benefits if any?

Well, you could of course ignore all the guilds and their quests, and go right down to the mainstory and finish the game in 2 or 3 days. Now i ask you...what would be the point of THAT ? Wouldn't you much rather explore everything, try to complete every single quest, find every "special" item, level up on all available skills, etc... ?

that doens't exactly answer the question. what are the benefits to leading a guild? just to bring up your reputation? and whats the purpose of a reputation anyways?

Not sure, i don't care much about my reputation. It's either being called "annoying outlander" or "it's sooooo good to see you", and i don't waste any time on both comments.
But if you insist...the only benefits i can think of is that doing their quests will lead you to weapons and armour which you would probably never find without the directions given to you by the guilds. Unless you have a list of where to find those items of course. And of course to gain additional levels. Right now i'm at level 82, and i still have the Morag Tong, Imperial Legion, and House Hlaalu quests ahead of me. So i'll probably be at level 85 somewhat when i finally decide to face Dagoth Uhr. But if i understand correctly, it's possible to finish him off at level 15 or something like that. But i'm the type of person who wants to get the most out of my game before i let it collect dust, so i do every little quest before i go to the grand finale, even though it's not really necessary. And then i still have Tribunal and Bloodmoon ahead of me.

actually, i do have a list of whre the important items and places are. plus i downloaded a plug-in that puts a "book of secrets" in balmora that i can carry around that explains the secrets of morrowind so i can refer to that as "in game" help. as for finishing him off at level 15, its possible. you simply have to reach the heart of lorkhan before he kills you.

besides what johnny states i guess there aren't any other benefits of being the leader of a guild.
although, it would interesting if after a couple of days the player were challenged by another member wanting to gain leadership of the guild and each succeeding challenger were a little more powerful. additionally, once per day a player could call up 1-5 (randomly selected) guild members for aid. of course, this wouldn't help all that much since the monsters in the game aren't that tough. anyway, the guild members would stay with the player for the duration of the day, the player voluntarily dismissed them, or when the player rests.

Well, even if i could order people from my guild to follow me around on my quests, i still wouldn't do it. I remember those little quests where you had to escort someone from A to B, and underway getting attacked by a wild Guar or a Nix Hound. They blindly charge into the fight, blocking your path, and me accidentally hitting them, sometimes even kill them. This is obviously not a game for partymembers.

i hate those quests, since my character is so fast its annoying having those slow guys trailing behind me. although when your a low level character its nice to start thos emission but never finishe them so that you have people who attack everything that attacks you so you have less work to do

The advantage?
- Your reputation grow up - Your disposition with certain people grow up - In the case of thief guild, at the end you'll get the chance to use the best lockpick in the game. |

well, the best lockpick is pointless when your security skill reaches 100, you can do the same work with a journeyman's lockpick. and whats the purpose of having a reputation?
