I read Lord of the Rings a long time ago and am now starting to read again. I am so excited about getting into this great adventure. Yes, I am thinking about the movie and can't wait till next month to see it. I know that the books will be much better than the movie, but the trailer does look pretty darn good.

Since I have to sit in one spot most of the day, I have gone out and purchased the Unabridged audiobook of the "Fellowship of the Ring".
It is very well read by Rob Inglis. The CD compilation is over 20 hours of listening on 16 CD's! It also makes the day go much faster. I plan on buying the "Two Towers" and "The Return of the King" as well. I have also seen the THREE trailers for the upcoming movie. I can't say as I can speak clearly after seeing them. Got this lump in my throat. http://www.tolkien-movies.com/media/...trailers.shtml Finally after all these years. The film looks like it will be wonderful and I, for one, am going the first night! |

Even though I have not read it yet it looks like a good book. I'll begin reading it once I am done with the new Drizzt book.

I think most people will agree that the hobbit sucked... You really shouldn't read it first (unless you want to) as it may turn you off a little... Read the LotR novels first to get into the 'zone' then read the hobbit and other novels if you want to know more about the series and beyond.

I read the hobbit first, which I liked at the time (probably only because it was my first fantasy novel) but I admit that LoTR is much, much better than the Hobbit. It has more detail, a better plot, better characters, everything. Perhaps the only thing i didn't like about the LoTR was that the geneology and songs got a bit tedious at times... But if this wasn't there, would LoTR be so good??

Yerfdog, I normally skip the songs and poems, though I must admit Tolkien had a talent for it. It serves to flesh out the world and give a really historical, detailed feel to the book, just by their presence.
