Hm.. do you consider lvl 20 to be low level, Wolfman? There are Deity's in the Forgotten Realms, with Avatars that have less power then that

In the official campaigns, you have LOADS of nasties and goodies ranging from level 20 and up.

Not to speak about Elmunchkin.. er Elmisnster... and his harem.. er sorceress freinds of the Mystra....

Nah. Faerun is kinda spoiled that way, the levels got fixed afterwards and it is really a level bonanza. Take a look at greyhawk where the levels are much more realistic and evened out. You are really something when you reach level 10. In Faerun, you are just another snack for some mean ol' red wizard, or a walking smorgardsbord for mindflayers..

My main thing is that it can go pretty quickly in MP games to level up and after some time you would like to gain something for all your experience and why not face the epic monsters out there?

The only class that stands out obviously one way or another i think is rogue, the benifits of going from lvl 15 rogue to level 20 are quite minimal and since you have high int for skills addy 5 mage levels is much better that another 5 rogue because by lvl 15 you can handle any traps locks ect in the game if you have reasonable int.

I finished the OC with a monk that could pick locks with any rogue, and whipped three dragons with her bare hands. Let's see a rogue do that. Nothing against them, high int, high dex, and shoot hell out of everything with a bow from as far away as possible, unless, you can sneak close enough...
