Yes.

(Now for an equally ridiculous and oversimplified question).
Are you saying that we and our families should all be poor forever?

I've checked, apparently you owe me, personally, $4.91

To make it clear, that is between the whole population of the U.S.

Please note that this is based on the fact that I lent an ex-colleague £2.50 one lunch-time and they didn't pay it back as yet. They have since returned to the States and, as I am not sure where they went but I do know that they were allowed back into your country, I have decided to hold you collectively responsible.

I am sure we can work out a reasonable repayment schedule

Will you take it in pennies?

It's risky to make public service too lucrative -the fox has the keys to the henhouse. Amazing how folks can justify the ludicrous when it's in their best interest. "Sure we deserve the money... after all... look at how much good work we do".

Personally, I believe any moderately educated citizen is as qualified to be a politician as any real politician (possibly more so because they're smart enough not to want the job). IMO since the bar is set so low, the financial benefit should be commensurate.

As far as bureaucrats... their income should be indexed to industry for analogous positions.

Obviously I did not understand what you were implying when you asked, “What is wrong with that picture…?”. When I posted the “oversimplified” question I guess I was just trying to understand your point. .

I thought you were saying that because a government official is financially successful in a struggling economy they are not “out for us”, as in they are not looking out for the people in their government appointed or elected positions. Sorry for my ignorance.

Maybe I should have read all the linked articles first.

I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go! I put the spousal unit to work so we could make ends meet, somebody moved the ends on us!

Now as things go, we ended up with more month than money. So, it's back to work again!

Now Uncle Sam says he is not pulling enough back from my retirement, so he wants me to send him money and it needs to be postmarked by midnight tonight, or file an extension, or even worse, don't get the economic stimulus that he wants to send out this summer. I tried to make a deal, he keep his check and I keep mine and we could call it even, he didn't like that.

I owe, I owe, it's back to work I go.
