The original IW chatroom DID get abused - but not by trolls. It was started shortly before a rather ugly incident occurred involving a long time member who made some very rude remarks and gestures towards a Moderator. Naturally, the member was banned for their actions.

But there were a handful of newer members that were friends with this person and a couple of them went into the chatroom and did an excessive amount of flaming towards IW in general and Ziroc in particular (IIRC). I didn't see the comments they made myself. But they basically stayed in the chat room and flamed anybody and everybody that came in there. Ziroc had no choice but to shut the chatroom down completely. He also added the newer members to the Banned List for their actions.
That's not exactly true. They didn't flame anyone that came in, i know, because i came in at a certain point, and after me came many more and none of them got flamed. It was more like an attempt to get people's attention, to rally behind their case i guess. Not a very good one though.

*packs bag with essential living goods*

I'm off to live in this new chatroom.

Ross, Johnny be right, some of the best times I ever had on IW were had in that Chatroom.

Practically a none stop laughing fest!

I was hoping IW would get a new one again, but I sorta gave up campaining after the button that said "Chat-room" on the top right of the screen (that didn't work for a long period of time) was taken down!

If you don't already have it, download and open mIRC: Here.

1) In the text box at the bottom, type this:
/server irc.quakenet.org

2) Then:
/join #ironworks

You're on! To change your name, type:
/nick Your-nick-here

Currently me and Ross are in the channel... but he's gone to play a bit of WarCraft... crazy WC junkie.

I've decided that I can't be arsed to go to bed - I'll stay and maintain the channel with Ross until enough people join that we can make the channel permanent.
mIRC isn't the only client, nor the best (in my opinion). There is also Hydra, Trillian, GAIM, Miranda, XIRC, Chatzilla and many others.
Also, it is generally good practice to change your nick before you join a channel. That is, /nick before /join .
Lastly, you can also `/attach severname' to connect to a certain server. Some clients noly recognise one or the other.

/me goes off to join the channel...

Ah Lennon, I saw you joined last night, not much activity then though.

Hydra is Ok, but it is very simple and just for beginners really, Chatzilla is ok, but not good if you are planning on staying around in a channel for a long period of time (i.e more than a day), I have never tried Miranda or XIRC, but Trillian and GAIM aren't bad.
