Hi everyone,

I'm new to this game, but I have to say that this board has already proven invaluable.
Thanks for the many tips about the Toad Potion. They've saved my computer from jumping out of the window in frustration. ("Did it jump, or was it pushed?" )

Now, I'm stuck again though - literally.
I'm in the Temple, and have gone into the Serpent Holds. I've pushed a button and jumped in some water. There's a side branch passage that I've tried to go up. I get to a point where it -seems- to get shallow enough to breathe, and the passage narrows and carries on.
However, I can't move along it. (I -can- drown, though. I'm very good at that.)
My first character is a human, and I've wondered if I should have the pixie in front (I read somewhere that it makes a difference). If so, how do I change the order? I've tried clicking on the pixie, making her selected, but this doesn't help.
I also find that I can't get back out of the hole that I jumped into...

Is there a way out of this water? Please don't tell me that I am doomed to go back to the last save game from ... too long ago.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the board Melb.

Many a adventurer has beccome stuck in the same place you are. Put your smallest character as lead character, have him/her selected that is (click on him). Your entire party then get that characters length and you should be able to squeeze through. Also have you killed the slime that is floating around in that area? It can also obstruct you.

First of all, it is possible to emerge from the water. Really! Second, you are not the first who has a big problem there. Most likely, the cause of the problem is the configuration of the orifice: almost all your moves make you hang on some edge or corner. It need not be apparent visually.

I have found that:
1. You will have a best chance to emerge:
a) if you select the smallest character in your party as a leader, as Willow has noted, and
b) if you will look a bit down during your attempt to emerge. Only a bit, not too much down. The tip is somewhere in the Best Tips thread.
2. Emerging from the water is much more difficult if you have windows 2000 or windows XP than if you have DOS (windos 98 or Me). But you can succeed still.

If you lose patience then simply give up. You are losing nothing. If you emerge from the water, you will find a short tunnel leading to a snake figurine. The figurine opens the way to a book with answers needed at the Spirit of Naga. That's all. No lost items, no lost XP. If you know the answers from elsewhere then you do not need the book or the figurine. The answers are in the Best Tips thread.

Welcome to the boards, Melb_Wiz! May you happily flush all the annoying problems in the Gael Serran...

You've already got excellent suggestions from two of our regulars. Now, let one of the irregulars add one more thought

I do believe that somewhere in the Best Tips thread is also a reference to trying to walk up that passageway backward; that somehow, that will let you sneak through. You might try that, but as Radek said, all you get up there are the answers.

Keep us posted on how you're going! We welcome fresh mea- ah, I mean new members to the boards

Welcome to the board Melb_Wiz!

I don't know if you are up to the level in your Moon Magic, but if you have learned the spell Teleport (or is it Vanish?) you might be able to Travel to a random location and onto the opening of the tunnel...But if not I think you'd better check the Best tips thread for other solutions.

bunlgeau! be careful with your way with words!
same problem are experienced in the Dragon Spires too. in one part before u see Erathsmedor, you can LITERALLY get stuck in the floor (or was that in another place?) and not able to move any more, thus causing you to reload back again.... search the best tips thread for more info........

I was thinking about the moon magic option as well, So So. You could either try to vanish there, or cast create portal on a fish swimming over near the dry land and then try to teleport to it.

Lotta work for a silly book, you ask me.

And LiOnHe@rT, what's with my words? I'm curious, is all. Unless you're referring to the flushing, which I hope happens with many of my problems

Welcome hither. We like to see new faces around here.

I believe you have benn well answered by the previous posters. And I would have been seriously surprised if you had not. If all else fails, take comfort in the fact that you do not have to go through the tunnel to complete the dungeon.

Also, there is an eccentric on the board who posts a story thread on his own party's advancement through the game. Click here to see his thoughts on the tunnel problem.

Wow. Thanks everyone for the swathe of replies.

I've been trying not to read the Best Tips, so I've probably missed references to this in there.
I do have sufficient Moon magic - one of the few tips that I've read emphasised it ... which is why I'm kicking myself for not making a portal before jumping in.
The reference to putting the smallest character at the front ... I take it that this is back in the Inn, correct? I take it that it's not something I can do while I'm drowning.
(Yes, I had killed the slimes, and yes, I'm running XP.)

I'm not worried about finding the book up the passageway, now - thanks. I've reverted to an earlier savegame and will simply avoid the water.
Maybe it'll be an idea to read more of the posts, to try to avoid these things.

How I'm doing overall? Well ... I'm starting to run low on patience.

On the one hand, it has a nice level of character depth.

On the other, it seems somewhat ... unfinished.
I got stuck in/on the -roof- of the lift trying to get out of the Crypt. Mewdaka drives me nuts, this water experience is lousy, the incomplete "reset adventures" feature, the guild interface ... etc.
They're mounting up. I find myself asking if the game is _really_ fun enough for the annoyances. MM6 (my last MM game) had slightly less complex characters, but it was at least finished. (I never had to reload because I got stuck in the floor...)
It'd be nice to have a way of getting down ladders that didn't involve falling, too. Maybe that's my bad driving, though. :]

I'm a software developer myself, I can sympathise with the developers at H.Park*. As a customer, though, I'm less likely to pick up another HP title.

One tip I could use ... given these annoyances - why do you play W&W, rather than moving to a different RPG? There's no sarcasm there - I'm honestly interested - I might be missing something, or maybe I haven't reached the best parts yet...

Melb_Wiz.

*I'm currently fighting my own management to delay a product's release until it's finished. "Testing (on this 12-month project). Hmm ... we'll allow 2-3 days..." - and yes, that's a direct quote.

You don't have to move your smallest character to the tope of the character screen. All you have to do is have him selected, i.e. his portrait should be displayed in the top left corner. That's all. Just click on him once and he'll be selected AND the lead character.

As to why we're still playing W&W I can only answer for myself. I have never encountered another RPG that is so flexible like W&W. If I totally mess up one character at the beginning he might be the best character I've got after a dungeon or two. The game play is excellent. Say you have completed the crypt once, then you can complete it in an entirely different way the next. That's the beauty of W&W, it doesn't need the be the most modern game at the moment, the game play and the game itself still holds the highest quality. But I do play some newer RPGs as well, like Arx Fatalis.
