On the first level of Dorn's Deep, in the far NE of the cave, there is a door that I can't seem to pathfind to. You can mouse over a ? mark near it and it sez "a large amount of heat is radiating from this area" (or something thereabouts). I'm not finished with DD yet, will I find it on my own?

I'm unclear about where exactly you are.

Are you talking about the cave area with myconids and ettins? If so, you can only get to that tower from the long ledge at the north of the cave. The access point is immediately to the right of the entrance.

Yes, the first level with the myconids and ettins.

Ok, then, it's simple. Follow the above instructions. Be warned, it's a long, narrow, and frustrating journey along the ledge (there's a cave along the way which has some weak opposition, which you can skip if you choose). I usually go two-by-two, since narrow passages + IWD's pathfinding don't mix. There's no enemies on the ledge, iirc.

You can skip the doorway if you choose, as it's not absolutely necessary to the quest, but you can do/acquire a few things if you go there.

If you mean the old guard tower, then there's a wizard inside who ask you to perform a small task for him. He can also sell you a few potions as well as a couple of spell scrolls ( mostly summoning spells).

There are no enemies ON the ledge, but the myconids can still hit you with their range attacks from below, so beware.
