It's a shame there isn't a stronger penalty for killing the King.
Maybe something like getting back up to the top of the mine
and finding hoardes of elite stout guards waiting for you.
(Like one room on Bards' Tale 1 which had 4 groups of 99 barbarians) [hum]

Found his key can be stolen with level 9 pickpocket although
it takes a few attempts.

Ah the King slayer are we? Make sure to sell the hammer for a profit.

There are quite a few decisions in this game that have NO REMORSE in which way you go. Ah, the overworked, and time restrained code writers.

Bard's Tale, 99 barbarians? I thought I was the only one here old enough to have played that.

Killed him coz I got bored of stealing back
the dragon ore - and had 6 sets of Dragon Plate.

He spawns lots of guards if you want to milk them for the xp.

Haven't killed any of the others yet - strongly tempted on Harespia, might perform a little "justice" for the Hidden Circle too.

Re: BT1 - sweet game. Though my first D&D type game, other than "The Real Adventure" (xyzzy/plugh) was Ultima3.

Or just unleashing the demons apparently lurking in the shadows down there would be an appropriate occurence.

Might and Magic was my first CRPG, although I played Bard's Tale II and Ultima... III, I think, at that time. I've played more than a couple ever since...

And I agree about Freyedies and many other aspects of the game -- too bad the developers didn't have the time and funds available to make the Oath of the Mavin really, really count...

At least there is a trigger when yo ukill Freyedies, unfortunately it isn't developed to more than a 'you here an evil laugh' or something. T'would be nice if it triggered the Mavin to consume you when collecting it. A nice and lovely surprise wouldn't you say, after running about in the spire.

You wouldn't have the Mavin yet if you're killing Freyedies (at least, not unless you decided to come back later). Do you mean to have it Consume you when you pick it up? It shouldn't because you need to wield it first before your actions are supposedly marked...

Hmmm... interesting point, Lord. You don't have the Mavin, but you have sworn the oath. I think Willow is referring to being consumed when you pick it up -- but that would be a heck of a "GAME OVER" when it happened. A first-time gamer might never come back

But an option for second-timers... there's a thought. Imagine a flag in addition to difficulty and spawn frequency: Oath enforcement. Wouldn't that make life... challenging...
