I just remembered that when I was a child, I had a reccuring dream in which a metal dragon would give me jam sandwiches and a sofa to sit on but would eat me if I dripped any jam on the sofa. I would slide down it's throat, which was kind of like one of those tube shaped water slides you get at swimming pools only steeper, and without water. Does this mean anything? Am I mad? Help!

My father is one. However you need a shrink (if at all. My opinion that it is just a dream), and not a psychiatrist. The late one deals with "drugs and potions" and the shrink deals more with interpritating stuff. I can ask what it means, but i can assure you with 1079% guarantee that without meeting you in person and speaking to you, no doctor will tell you anything.

I know we have like two psych. majors here. Hold out for them, and they'll come along later today hopefully.

Yeah, you do have some minor issues. Nothing to worry about though, have a beer, relax a bit... and the dragon will fly away eventually.

Did that work ?

I have a degree in psychology but am a co-counsellor.

I'd wager as a child you either had alot to live up to and felt pressured and fearful that you would not (perhaps your parents expected alot from you or were simply more strict than most). I'd go so far as to say you still feel a gnawing insecurity about meeting people's expectations to this day.

You're right about my parents being strict. I did worry about meeting peoples expectations when I was 14-18ish (but didn't everyone at that age?). I don't now.
I just remembered this dream this morning. I used to have it every night. I can't remember exactly how old I was (under 10, but I can't be more specific than that). I do remeber waking up from it and sometimes feeling like I had fallen. I also remember I had a border around the top of my bedroom wall with brightly coloured horses printed on it.

I agree that the dragon represents a parental figure. They fed you and gave you a place to rest, but... Were you afraid of them at all? Because it seems to imply that if you slipped up at all, there would be hell to pay.

Are you having these dreams now? Why the sudden cause for alarm and wondering if you need help?

It worries me because I hadn't thought about it for years, and suddenly this morning it was all I could think about.

I am degreed with a Masters in Clinical Counseling and some dreams are very significant, especially if they are from your childhood that comes to your awareness in your adulthood (I know many people who have this happen; I certainly have). Your subconscience is trying to tell you something in symbolic ways. It sounds both fearful and conflicting. Often unresolved childhhood conflicts have a real knack of appearing in our adult years. How old are you? The reason I ask is because therapy may be in order and as is often the case most people don't enter it until the 30s, 40s, and 50s. It doesn't mean your wacked or anything, but it does disturb you.
