How lovely. Someone in China has decided to enhance the internet experience by making it impossible to actually sign onto hotmail and some other sites which I happened to like.
I want to kick someone in the head for this. The sites aren't political, aren't controversial, and aren't "morally corrupting the populace". Just some idiot(s) with too much time on their hands and their head up their arse. Clearly, bitching about it won't really change anything, or at least not in a good way, but it's been a long day at work and I was looking forward to a fix of humor. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that I managed to get onto IW. We'll see just how long that lasts. Definitely want to kick the responsible parties in the head.

Being locked out of IW due to regional location might be a reason to move to another locale, imo.
I hope you've not lost access to anything really important. I wonder what their idea of "enhancing internet experience" really is...

I guess they get blocked too, but can't you try using some anonymous surfing website?

China is honestly not Communist, nor is Cuba. As long as there is an uneven distribution of resources, as long as there is a ruling class, it is not Communism. China is a Dictatorial Capitalist state, and Cuba is a Dictatorial Socialist state. You may as well state that Soviet Russia was Communist. Just because the "Glorious people's revolution!" is their excuse for staying in power, or whatever, it doesn't mean that they actually believe in it.
As for China's censorship, I would not recommend trying to circumvent it. Supposedly a lot of people have come to bad ends in: "Internet addiction centers," where most of the therapy is tantamount to torture, as a result of being caught at that. I'm not sure if it's worth being able to visit whatever site you want. |

As of the 15th of March, 2007, the CIA still considers Mainland China as Communist.
However, I did find this article that supports your opinion. (You're welcome). However, had you posted that, I would have pointed out that your information is from 1999, and given you this link to BBC World Service from 2006 where you can listen to a radio report from a journalist on the subject. Scroll down to this section and listen with Real Player. (Just over 2 minutes). Quote:

Well, if the Chinese would have read a few of my posts, IW would have been outlawed years ago for the Chinese public. This is just another confirmation of my exellent stealthy "undermine the commie bastards" posting style. Sometimes it's scary how good i am.
