Exterminators are good. You could also check out your local hardware store for wasp spray. My dad always has wasps trying to build nests on his house, and he sneaks out at night, gives them a couple shots of poison, and voila, no more wasps.

Yours sounds a bit big for that tactic, though. Better get that sorted out before you use the BBQ. You'd have to fight them off with a flamethrower.

As big as a wheelbarrow? So in excess of 15 inches in diameter? or 38 cm in diameter, roughly? As in lots, lots bigger than a basketball?

No way I'd try that manually. I'd call in the professionals. You could try spraying the nest, but the odds of you being able to get to the center of the nest (and kill the beasties there) are pretty slim. Unless, of course, you'd like to pick the nest up and drop in it a bucket, that is...

It is best to move on them at night, since they return to the nest and are fairly dormant then.

Still, a nest that size is worth paying someone to get rid of. I did that a couple of years ago, and the next I was dealing with was just larger than a baseball. The exterminator came in, put on his fancy uniform, and fogged, sprayed, and smashed the nest until they were all gone.

Good luck to you

I've got a mudwasp nest the size of a wheelbarrow beside the wood shed, and they are now making their way into the house. I got stung yesterday, so it's all out war this afternoon.

I was thinking about the big stick method, but the nest is too big. Any ideas?
Black Flag makes a pretty good wasp-killer spray. Afternoon, all.

EDIT: On maturer consideration, I would go with the exterminator.

Hi everyone. Still got that cramp feeling in my side it hurts. Told my parents and they said if it doesn't go away soon they'll take me to the Dr.

Got flying with my dad today *sigh* should be horrible, he's such a perfectionist!

Anyway, good luck with the wasps!

Lady Blue, get that pain checked NOW. If that pain is being caused by your appendix, it's a LOT better to deal with it sooner rather than later.

Called an exterminator, and he came out and said he'd never seen one that big before. It's a good 3 feet in diameter, and probably about 18" tall.

Won't be long now, and I'll be wasp free.

to prevent wasp build up, some of my neighbors use mothballs placed around the yard, it seems to keep out most insects as well as the annoying pest of company
