When I was playing Wizardry 8 there was a stratigy some players used of not levelling up their party until they could go from say level 1 to 9 in ‘one go’. So my question is can that be done in NWN and has anyone tried it?
I know at level 1 when I kill say the koblots and rats at the beginning of SoU I get 30 xp each. At level 2 it drops to 27 xp. If I didn’t level up would I still get the 30xp?

Cheers

I would say 'Yes' because you are still at level 1 so creatures will offer the same experiance points.

No, it doesn't work like that in NWN. Experience granted is calculated based on the character's amount of experience points.

It can be changed through scripting, but the official campaigns use the above method.

That's right. It is possible in some modules, but not in others. It depends on whether the experience reward script calculates how hard the fight was based on your level, or on your experience. You could argue that the Wizardry way is more accurate, because since you didn't level up, the fights you have really are harder.

There are still other ways to make sure you maximize your XP intake. It may cut into your fun factor but if you avoid using henchmen, summoned creatures, animal companions, familiars, etc., you will get full XP from your kills. I'm not sure if this still works, but in earlier versions of the game if you used a very low level summons/familiar/companion you would actually get an XP bonus because the creature would lower your party's average level by so much.

Another thing you can do is to explore every area in full and make sure you talk to all the NPC's and do all of the available side-quests. This may be common sense, but alot of modules have side quests that are easy to miss but are very rewarding.
