Rather no boots of speed, for they have no effect on him, though the spell does. He's not wearing any movement related items, and unless he's got equipped a jockstrap of outstanding freedom, I can't see why it still doesn't work when I remove all his items.
I have installed the Baldurdash ToB fixpack and some minor mods, mostly of the tweak-existing-things/banter pack variety. Thanks for any help. [ 10-29-2004, 12:58 AM: Message edited by: Hopeless Necromantic ] |

He's been blinded. Cast a dispel magic on him.

I know that being Blinded effets your THACO, but I didn't know that it effects your speed too.

Go to this thread..

Whoa, whoa, whoa!
Edwin can't run fast, therefore he must be Blind??? **EEEP** Wrong answer, thank you for playing. Edwin's speed bug is well-known, and, as far as I know, has no cure. The problem originates in his quest (SPOILERS on Edwin's quest follow): When he becomes Female, the script that gives him the Mage Female Human avatar is running constantly. If you have the CheatKeys enabled, you can use Ctrl-6 and Ctrl-7 to cycle your character through all the various creature avatars. Not so with Edwin--when you change to one, he instantly snaps right back. This continues after he is restored to his normal form, he is constantly being told that he's supposed to look like a Mage Male Human. This permanent avatar change effectively jams up the animation frames that show him walking, thus gimping his movement rate, and sometimes making him "glide" across the ground without moving his legs at all. Unfortunately, this bug seems to be hardcoded. My fix for it seems to work, but unfortunately it won't help you: I simply postpone obtaining the Nether Scroll until I'm just about ready to enter Chapter 7 and leave SoA behind me forever. No Edwina change, no stupid avatar bug, therefore Boots of Speed. I'm afraid your only solution is to dig into ShadowKeeper and mess around with some ugly Global Variables. I, too, love the name.

Yes, I was too harsh in my condemnation, sorry. The "Edwin can't Haste" problem and the "Spellcaster walks right up to people to cast spells on them" problem have absolutely nothing to do with each other, but your intentions were good.
If someone mentions Edwin, and Haste, and Boots of Speed, and Free Action, they're talking about the dreaded Edwin bug. If, however, they mention being unable to cast spells at range, and possibly having a really small line-of-sight, they're talking about the Blindness bug.
