Is there any good fighter kit out there, to say the truth i'm not a master of this hack-n-slash thingy so i need a beginner's kit to play. Alas thats the disadvantage of NEVER playing any fighter in any game, and mastering magic all along ! Well i'll need appropriate equipment as well so be kind to post that too! And im playing solo!
P.S. Dundee if you're reading this can you confirm my doubt that you've been visiting computer related forums, cause most of the strict mods you are talking about can me found there Edit: Can anyone explain to me what good is a kensai, and what good is the added speed factor please [ 08-27-2002, 01:31 AM: Message edited by: whacky ] |

I played first time with berserker kit, and found it rather good. You just have to spec in long swords and two weapon style (didnt try two-handed sword, two swords are just faster). Equipment - cloak of mirrors, red dragon scale mail, equalizer, ring of gaax, ring of protection +2. This all should give you -12 AC while enraged, and its a good result IMHO. Also you'd like to use girdle of * giant strength (mine is stone) which gave me 20 str. At the char generation, be patient and roll your stats to str 18/00 dex 18 con 18. Thats all...

But the important question is that will it give satisfaction that a high level sorcerer , archer and cavaliar can give, i carve for control will it give me that, i lust for power will it provide me with a sense of that Ok maybe i've gotten a bit carried away but does it give satisfaction ?

Good solo pure warrior kit? Berserkers and Barbarians come to mind immediately. Trying to say which one is better is fruitless though, as both have their strong points. My own personal opinion? Barbarian. Immunity to backstab, physical resistances( and you can gain immunity to physical damage as proven in a thread on the ToB forum), and buttloads of life. The only real disadvantage they have is a weaker rage, not being able to wear Plate Armour or better and being able to only specialise in their weaponary. No big deal though, in my opinion. Speed factor just determines who hits first, it is not a critical issue in the grand scheme of things. Kensais are soloable( and several people have done so), but I will not consider it an easy task. It is definitely not a beginner's kit so far as soloing is concerned. I ain't no Barbarian expert, but if I recall correctly, Barbarian SoA Equipment: -------- Armour: Shadow Dragon Scale Armour Helmet: Helm of Balduran, Helmet of Defence Gloves: Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise Amulet: The one that grants 10% magic resistance, sold in the Underdark. Ring1: Ring of Gaxx Ring2: Ring of Earth Control, Ring of Free Action Cloak: Cloak of Mirroring Boots: Boots of Speed Belt: Girdle of Stone Giant Strength Weapons: Crom Faeyr + Flail of Ages( or the Defender of Easthaven ) |

The satisfaction, IMHO, is going alone, one on 4 mind flayers, 2 Brain Golems and 3 Umber Hulks and getting NO damage at all! Or, recently, I did in 4 stone and 2 adamantine golems(without turning to Slayer form) in that elven city of Suldannesar (spelling without getting ANY damage. Control it will give. It will give you the ability to cut through MASSES of enemies without a scratch!
Now I prefer to go alone and clean all the monsters in the area for them not to touch my companions... I really think on doing solo next time Also, fun. Fun is being surrounded by beholders, going out for a smoke and returning to see 8-9 pertrified beasts in circle around you You know, cloak of mirrors... It all depends on your personal preference in the end.
Some people like Mages, some people like Clerics/Rangers, some people like Rogues, some people like Warriors. If you don`t like hack-and-slash, then the fighter isn`t for you. On the other hand, if you don`t like the spell system, then a mage isn`t for you. You`re probably wondering now how this applies to your question... quite simply, my advice is only solo a class which you like playing. Otherwise, it will loose it`s fun value. Thus, experiment around with the different kits and use one which you have fun playing. [ 08-27-2002, 04:47 AM: Message edited by: LennonCook ] |

Heh, heh, LennonCook is right. I am of course a spellcaster kind of person. I tried using a Berserker before, and although things were going smoothly, I just felt bored with him. I just do not have the melee mentality, I much prefer the intricate act of spellcasting.
Paladins are the sole exception, there is just this magical feeling about using a Paladin. I can never grow tired of using a Paladin. In all fantasy games, I choose the Sorcerer first, then the Paladin second. |

If u want a fighter combined with a mage, try a BARD, the class is pretty hard to solo, but it's quite fun.

Definetly play a beserker! I'm playing one now and it's my favorite kit. As Dundee said though only play one if you like your character to be up front fighting the enemies. My beserker has ***** in two-handed swords is a half-orc with 19 strength and constitution and is neutral evil. Him and Korgan are an excellent team together nothing can stop them. So I vote for beserker.

Kits really aren't designed for beginners. If you are totally unfamiliar with the game and with AD&D in general, just play a straight fighter. There's nothing wrong with them, and they are MUCH more versatile than any of the kits, especially if you have never played BG2 before and don't know what to expect.
Straight fighters rule! Just look at "Machinegun" Mazzy! EDIT: Equipment: Just take whatever you need. As a straight fighter, you should use 2-handed weapons like swords, halberds, and composite/longbows. Toughest platemail you can find. Best rings, etc. you can find. Helm of Balduran. Boots of Speed. I'm sure you can figure it out. [ 08-27-2002, 09:37 AM: Message edited by: Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs ]
