Saw a midnight showing on the 18th. My life is now complete.
Driving home from the movie at 3:00 AM I got the bright idea of creating a party with characters from the The Lord of the Rings. I'm thinking:

Aragorn - human ranger
Legolas - moon elf fighter
Gimli - dwarf fighter
Gandalf - human mage
Frodo - halfling thief?

I'm not sure who else to add to the party. Boromir becomes rather dead, so I don't want him. Not so sure I want more Hobbits, either. Also, I need a healer. . . .

I'd appreciate your input.

Well... Gandalf never use much flashy spells, so you could make him into a druid instead, or maybe make him into a mage/druid or mage/cleric. He sure is more than a common mage.

That's very interesting. I've actually had a LOTR party once in all of the Black Isle games it works great. Take your pick from these.

Remember, most of the folks who designed RPGs read LOTR before they'd even picked up a mouse so you'll have a lot of fun with this. You could even go with an Evil party, Saruman, Uruk-hai, Gollum (Gnome?) etc.

Boromir- Fighter
Faramir- Ranger or Paladin
Aragorn- Ranger
Legolas- Fighter/Druid or Ranger
Gimli- Fighter
Gandalf- Mage
Galadriel- Cleric
Frodo- Thief
Merry- Fighter/Thief
Pippin- Fighter/Thief
Glorfindel- Fighter/Mage
Elrond- Fighter/Mage
Eomer- Fighter
Tom Bombadil- Bard
Isildur- Fighter

Interesting. I was thinking of doing the same thing but wanted
to wait until I could find a site that had good IWD2 size portraits
from the Two Towers. I've heard of the Chosen of Mystra site, which
is good, but I was wondering if there would be more sites with these
types of portraits for varieties sake. Anyone know?

Here would be my party:

Frodo - Rogue with good hiding skill
Aragorn - Ranger with all of the Large Sword feats (Cleave, etc.)
Gandalf - Wizard with maybe some Druid levels for some healing
Legolas - Fighter/Ranger with all of the Bow feats
Gimli - Fighter
Elrond - Cleric of Lathander/Fighter/Wizard

I would use Elrond for "band-aid" purposes until he was high enough
in level to multiclass.

I think you're right. He never consults a spell book.

Isn't he always referred to as a sorceror, when not being called the grey, or wanderer? or is that in the book I am reading now, which is strin=kingly similiar to LOTR...

I've always had trouble with parties from bokks... the author's do not seem to understand what makes a good party!!!
They often have the right character's in there... but they don't travel along with the party... and I can't really justify taking them along... take some examples from my favourite authors...

Salvatore:
Icewind Dale... Drizzt = Ranger (and others in small quantities)
Bruenor = Fighter
Wulfgar = Barbarian
Catti-Brie = Fighter
Regis = Thief

The Demon Awakens(etc.)... Elbryan = Ranger
Pony = Fighter (maybe a mage)
Avelyn = Monk (maybe a mage)
Roger = Thief
Juraviel = Fighter
Bradwarden = Fighter

David Eddings:
Belgariad / Malloreon... Polgara = Sorceror
Belgarath = Sorceror
Belgarion = Sorceror
Silk = Thief
Mandorallen = Fighter
Lelldorin = Fighter
Relg = ??? (walks through stone...???)
Barak = Fighter
Hettar = Fighter
Durnik = Blacksmith (fighter)
Toth = Guide (fighter)
Ce'Nedra = No class
Taiba = No class
Eriond = God

Terry Brooks
The Sword of Shannara... Allanon = Sorceror
Shea = No class
Flick = No class
Durin = Fighter
Dayel = Fighter
Hendel = Fighter
Menion = Ranger
Balinor = Fighter

Tolkien:
Lord of the Rings... Gandalf = Sorceror (or mage or druid)
Gimli = Fighter
Legolas = Fighter
Aragorn = Ranger
Boromir = Fighter
All hobbits have no real class (possibly fighters? not really thieves)

Does anyone agree?

Does anyone even know what the hell I am talking about?
