Is there any place in the game to safely store possessions? I am accumulating a lot of stuff, some of it probably not useful again (e.g., notes for finished quests), but I'm loathe to leave it on the ground somewhere.

Any ideas? Thanks.

In the asylum you find the bag of holding in wich you can store you´re stuff.
Also if you put items into chests they will not disapear.

You can store items in chests and barrels and things. The trick is to remember where you have stored them. If you have a stronghold that is a good place. I had the D'Arnise estate and stored things in chests and whatnot there. Don't leave things just out (I think they will eventually disappear). I would suggest your stronghold or note where you've put the stuff.

Yes, store them in boxes and stuff - I suggest storing them in your stronghol d(after all - it IS yours!)

Each stronghold comes equipped with at least one container and if you play the Mage Stronghold (must be a wizard) then you have the delight of not one but THREE separates boxes bunched together - one for weapons, one for scrolls and another for miscelleaneous stuff!

Wonderful

I've dropped stuff on the ground in the store in the promenade and it's still there whenever I return. Does anyone know if equipment does get picked up at some point?

Use your stronghold, like everyone says.
Another place I store stuff (weapons I may need etc) is in the Copper Coronet, in the box next to the entrance to the back area. Handy if you're around town.
One thing - use your User Journal to write things down!!
I thought someone had picked Yoshi's pockets (for the Pickpocket gloves!!) as I couldn't find them.
Of course I'd left them in the safest area - the ranger cabin (stronghold)
Another thing you can do is to store stuff on people. If you want to change your party around, e.g. take Jan out instead of Yoshi, just take all the decent equipment off Yoshi, load him down with all your spare stuff, and kick him out.
Then you can just wander off and do your quests, knowing that somewhere, there's a thief wearing 4 sets of armour and carrying half a dozen double handed swords LOL!
